I am using the ringtone maker, and with the new itunes 11.1 i'm having such a hard time! and I dont see the ringtone section that use to be there when the old itune was there. so what do I do? how do I get this ringtone on my phone now? I dont want to have to go back to buying ringtones and then getting the part I dont want on the song. so I really need some help guys.

This will show the sidebar like in version 10.x

If you do not have ringtones, of course it's not viewable.
Now, click Tones in iTunes Sidebar, try drag and drop ringtone from your desktop to it.

You have to empty your trash before import the m4r file, because iTunes do not import the m4r file instead it restore the one we deleted.
I have 2 MP3s that I am trying to convert to ringtones.
(Windows 7)
At the step where you take the file in windown explorer, and rename the extension from .m4a to .m4r
The files say something about converting, it may become unusable. I say OK, and then it changes to a generic page icon. Then it won't allow me to bring the .m4r's with the generic icons back into iTunes, the cursor changes to a red circle with a slash.
What now?
You use iTunes to convert mp3 to m4a format
Make sure you can see the file extensions on Windows before you rename m4a to m4r.
Go to Microsoft web site to see how to view file extension.
Yes, I am past that step, the files have already been converted to AAC from in iTunes, they are are now .m4a
That part is just fine. It's what comes next that I'm having problems with. When I rename the files from .m4a to .m4r and then bring it back into itunes... The files have generic icons and then won't re-import into itunes.
You are sure file extensions are visible for all files?
Try rename it on desktop not in Explorer.
I'm sure they're visible. I'm an I.T. guy.
What about file permission?
Other that that I'm not sure why you can't drag and drop into iTunes.
Is iTunes > Preferences... (Windows: Edit > Preferences...) > General tab > Tones selected?
Also iTunes > View > Show Sidebar ?

Try to add that ringtone you converted to m4r to your itunes libraries ringtone tab,
from that ring tone tab drag it onto your phones ringtone tab,
