iTunes wont open!!

My computer was acting strange so I downloaded an AntiSpyware from McAfee and ever since I ran the program my iTunes wont open. I guess I deleted or "cleaned" all of the files and programs that were potentiall harmful. Did I maybe delete something that I needed in order to open my iTunes? Someone please help. I never backed up any of my music and I don't want to lose it all!!

hi Toko!

Just now I followed about uninstalling Quicktime
but i got a message "the following does not exist or
is not a valid uninstallation log file.

okay, the "uninstall.log" message usually responds
better to brute force than finesse. rather than
trying to uninstall QT, just do a careful standalone
QT reinstall "over the top" of what you've already
got in there.

download and save a copy of the QT 7.1 standalone
installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install
from there rather than online.) switch off
antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the
install.

Quicktime 7.1 Standalone Installer

if that install goes through okay, does your itunes
launch properly again?

(if you get an error message on the QT standalone
reinstall, let us know what it says. include error
message numbers if you're getting any.)

love, b

Hello b,

I did it....thanks for the help....my itunes works fine now.

I'm having a problem opening iTunes as well. When I open it, a window pops up saying the following:
"iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Then it has the buttons "Debug", "Send Error Report" (to Microsoft) and "Don't Send".

All this pops up the moment I try to open iTunes. I already reinstalled and repaired it, neither worked.

Thanks.

George Mann,

If you're crashing, let's get a crash log and send it to those lazy Apple engineers.

Typically, you'll need to configure Dr. Watson on your PC in order to generate crash logs. Windows start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return. At the prompt in the command line window that comes up, type in

drwtsn32 -i

And hit return.

This will create crash logs in Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson\. There'll usually be a file in here called "drwtsn32.log" If there's already a file there, it most likely has multiple crash logs in it (new crash logs are just appended to the end of the file). So, delete this file. This will make sure you're not sending extra information I don't need. These crash logs are text files, so you can open them in notepad or whatever to see what information you're sending.

So, get the machine setup to collect crash logs, do the thing that makes iTunes crash. Send it to our buddy Roy. It doesn't hurt to put the URL to this discussion thread because he gets a lot of these messages and is easily confused. Tell him Toonz sent ya.

heathapr2,

Just go to your My Music folder, right click on the iTunes folder, select properties, make sure that the "read only" property isn't checked. Then go into My Music\iTunes, find the iTunes Library.itl file, right click on that, select properties and make sure that the "read only" property isn't checked on that file.

ubermensch,

Let's get an installer log and send it to the Apple engineers.

1. Open a commnd prompt window. (Start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return.)

2. Drag and drop iTunesSetup.exe onto the window so that the full pathname of the file is at the command line prompt.

3. Type in a space, then the following line:

/l*v C:\log.txt

4. Hit return.

5. The installer will create a log file:

C:\log.txt

Send it to our buddy Roy. It doesn't hurt to put the URL to this discussion thread because he gets a lot of these messages and is easily confused. Tell him Toonz sent ya.

My problem is similar, I originally had iTunes 6.0.4 but then I downloaded 7.0, after discovering that it had doubled all of my songs, I tried to get 6.0.4 back. After I installed it, all my library was gone, so I put all my songs back in my library, but then when I tried to listen to any of my songs they wouldn't even play, the previews of songs in the store won't play either. Do you have any suggestions?
