iphone5 contacts won't transfer through Bluetooth BMW...

I've just had this problem with a BMW x1 2013. Bluetooth worked but it wouldn't synch contacts at all. BMW couldn't sort it but read on another forum if you have emojis attached to your individual contacts it just overloads and stops the synch. Removed the emojis and hey presto worked straightaway!

I had a similar issue. Simply remove emojis from the contact names that contain emojis. Then, dissociate and re-associate your phone with the car, and bingo!

When synching my iPhone with BMW 2012 via bluetooth, the car randomly picked up some of the contacts in my phone directory (Contacts) but ignored most of them. So I managed to transfer maybe 20% of my 100 contacts.

I am having the same problem. Just bought a new Camry and neither my husbands nor mine will transfer our phonebooks completely!

Apple blames Toyota..and vice versa.

I have emojis, but not attached to my contacts? Wouldnt even know how to attch them to contacts..............can anyone help me?

Try removing the Emojos from your phone. Not sure if the same problem exist with Toyota or not. I would also try an iPhone from someone without Emojos and see what happens.

if you have emojis in the contact name... for example, if you add 🙂 in between the first and last name of a contact you have (in the first name field), then this might block the BMW from (no idea about Toyota) downloading the list...

Contact syncing is controlled by the vehicle, not the phone. There is a single setting in the phone regarding contacts, but that only grants permission to download the contacts, it does no initiate the download. Go into Settings>Bluetooth, and select the small ℹ next to the vehicle. That gives you a small list of options. Make sure there is a checkmark by Contacts. You will have to check the user guide for the vehicle to find out where you tell it to download the contacts, or if there is a setting for changing the download. My Hyundai does it automatically, and if I pair another phone to the vehicle, it will ask if I want to download those contacts or leave the ones I currently have.

If that is checked, that is the only part the phone plays in the transfer of contacts. The rest is handled by the vehicle. Once connected, many vehicles download automatically, some require some type of interaction on the vehicle itself. If there is no setting on the screen or described in the user guide for the car, then I would guess that it is supposed to do it automatically. You can try removing the car from the list of Bluetooth devices on the phone, then turn Bluetooth off. Then remove the phone from the list of devices in the car. Turn the car off, then back on again. Go into the system for the car and put it in discovery/pairing mode. Go into the iPhone, turn Bluetooth on, which puts it into discovery/pairing mode. Once the devices recognize each other, complete the connection. At some point, the vehicle should download the phone book.

I ran into a problem where a few of my contacts stopped transferring. I modified the contacts that would not sync using iCloud.com, and waited for the changes to sync from there to the phone. Once I did, they were able to sync to the car again.

Something must have been corrupt in those contacts.

Hey KiltedTim.............can you tell me how you did that exactly? Did you use your iphone to go to iCloud.com, or can I do that on my computer?
