iphone5 contacts won't transfer through Bluetooth BMW...

Had the same problem with my wife's 2015 BMW X1. iPhone 5 would only load the first 20 of 200 contacts. Tried deleting the phone and then re-pairing it with no success. Had a few contacts with emoji's and one with a pic. Deleted the emoji's and the one pic and the phone book updated 100% without issue.

Same problem with my 2013 BMW 328i and iPhone 4.

Solution is that the iPhone only syncs the phone favorites, not the contacts. You'll have to manually sift through your contacts and add them to favorites one at a time.

Steps:

Activate the Phone app

click on the star at the bottom left to call up the favorites list.

click on the '+' at the upper right of the screen to add a phone number.

This brings up your contacts.

Find the contact you want and select it.

Then select the phone number you want. It only takes one number, so if you have multiple numbers for the contact, repeat.

Dialog box comes up asking if you want Voice Cal, FaceTime Audio or FaceTime, or cancel.

Make the selection and that number is added to the Favorites.

This will be the list presented to the BMW phone system when the iPhone pairs up.
