iphone5 contacts won't transfer through Bluetooth BMW...

I have a 2013 BMW. My iphone 5 will pair just fine, but the contacts will not transfer. I spent about 2 hours at the dealer where they tested their tech's iphone 5's -- all transferred no problem. Took the phone to Apple, got a new phone. That one worked for about 3 weeks and now it won't transfer. AM SO FRUSTRATED. I've re-set my phone, unpaired and repaired my phone...I've done everything possible. Can't figure out what the problem is. Any one else having this issue?

I have a 2011 X5 with CIC professional / NAV. The contacts worked fine until recently. Perhaps it changed when the dealer installed updated software to support a towing hitch receiver (the entire SW was updated to latest). Then only the favorites showed up in phone book on the car. The menu does not have a selection for uploading favorites vs. full contacts. What finally cured the problem was a suggestion in one of the above posts: delete BT connection of car on phone and of phone on car. Reboot both phone and CIC. Reestablish BT connection. After that, the full contacts uploaded as before.

Fran, I'm 66 too.

CIC is the "head unit" (the equipment behind that display screen that shows you car settings, navigation, radio, etc in the middle of your dash, above the ventilation controls). The CIC controls your interface with the car.

First go to BT on ur phone. Settings>Bluetooth>to the item in the list for ur BMW connection. Touch the right end of entry. Takes u to a screen. Select forget the device. Confirm, and ur phone won't know the BMW anymore. Power down phone totally. Now ur phone doesn't know ur BMW but ur BMW still knows ur phone. Next step is to wipe the phone from the BMW.

Turn on car ignition. Go to CIC main menu on BMW iDrive. Pick "telephone." I don't know how your menus appear on your screen, but find a selection that corresponds to the name of your phone. Select it (push down on iDrive controller). On the center console near the gear shift is ur iDrive controller knob. Next to it is an "options" button. Push the options button. A menu will appear on screen. Select the option to remove the phone from the list. It might say "remove device" or something else. Not sure of exact language. To get to the screen to do this u might have to go through some other screen such as "manage devices." Make sure ur phone is not listed any more on the CIC menu.

Now there is a knob near ventilation controls. When u push it it either mutes or unmutes the sound. Push it in for 20 seconds or more until the screen blanks out. Release button. CIC will reboot. Now CIC has totally forgotten ur phone.

Turn on ur phone and, with car ignition on, re-pair phone with car.

I suggest u take these instruction to dealer and have service advisor do for u. He / she should be able to follow and do in under 6 minutes.

Dear Maurice,

Dang you are a genius!!! Thanks so much for all the info..........I sure will take this to my dealership! Isn't it crazy that these dealers don't know a thing about computer technology!!

I will look for you on Facebook!

Happy Easter Bunny.......God Bless,

I have a 2013 Kia Optima. I have been using my bluetooth in the car with no problem since October when I got my iPhone 5c. A few weeks ago it suddenly stopped syncing my contacts. It says no phonebook entries. I have removed and added my phone numerous times. I was just at the dealer today for over 1 hour and they were all puzzled by this, because like someone else previously posted, all of there phone contacts were listed in my car. I also tried my son's iPhone 5 and it also worked! I tried all of the suggestions posted here and still nothing. It is driving me crazy but I am starting to think it has to be my phone since everyone else's has worked. I had my phone restored and it is not working. If anyone has any other ideas please let me know. Thanks.

We used to call it the radio. Now they are more complex and usually are functionally special purpose computers with a central processor and memory and so forth. They can be rebooted like any computer. It might be necessary to get info from the manufacturer about how to do that on your car. On my car you turn on the unit and then hold own the power button for 20 to 30 seconds until it shuts down and re powers up. But I don't know about yours.
