Phil - You have the patience of a saint! I followed your instructions and this worked. You couldn't be more correct about Apple making this non-intuitive. My iPad memory was so jammed up that when I created the empty folder on the Powerbook and tried to sync that, a message came up saying there wasn't enough memory on the iPad. It wanted an additional 2 MB which I didn't have, even though it showed the folder containing 0 pictures. Then I tried your other suggestion of unchecking the sync box. That did the trick. Whew! I was beginning to have self-doubt as an engineer with almost 30 years in the field. Now I finally have space for my Walking Dead episodes. Thanks!

You can delete the extra albums from the ipad. Just be on the main Photo page that shows all the albums. Then tap the EDIT button at top right. Then delete the albums you don't want. Then tap DONE at top right.

You can only delete albums within the photos app that were created within the photos app. If created and synced on the computer, then they must be unchecked in ITunes or deleted on the computer as others said.

Actually there are three ways. The third is to upload from my Nikon which I tether to my iPad while I am shooting.

I can delete the photos, but not the empty albums, from the iPad directly. I don't understand what on earth iTunes has to do with it?

I suspect I can attach the iPad to my MacBook (now that I just got one) and delete the folders that way, but I haven't tried it yet. I will report back when I do. It's been a few years since I used Macs, so I am still figuring this stuff out :-). Love it!

BUt how

nontherless, it never works

i need no pc.

just go to ( i file ) app for your ipad.

select all files in the pictures folder and hit the TRASHBIN button.

everything goes as it comes. And faster than doing it the Apple way.

i Tested it on my ipad. No need for a pc, wich isnt availible on the road when you need some space

on your device. Why does comfort always comes NOT on a orig. Device?

Hi,

I'm no expert...so bare with me if I don't make computer sense 🙂 I seem to be having same problem with my iPad mini...I've unsynced all albums from iTunes w/ipad connected....have manually deleted any photos from photos app on iPad....but..it's still showing under usage>manage usage>photo library> that it's taking up 4.2 GB of storage...but I have no photos in my iPad...does it have anything to do with iCloud storage ,perhaps?...help...

Thank you :-)

I just figured out why there were still 85 photos taking up 4.2 GB ....I had manually put all of my photos from my iPad mini into trash....but then I actually completely deleted all of them ...it seems a little confusing...but even though I had removed all photos...there was still an album named "recently deleted"..I had to delete them again in upper left corner..the option to delete all..now they are gone..and in iTunes...it has also gone down..phew....this album does not show up in iTunes...ok..feel better now..
