I don't have an option on my phone to update software, and when I'm connected to iTunes and select update, (under my phone) it says that my iTunes is up to date? How do I do this? I have the iPhone 4

Awesome! Thank you for your help! So Snow leopard would be a fine upgrade though? And would I lose pictures or music when I would do the upgrade?
No content will be lost. If you decide to upgrade beyond Snow Leopard, applications of the type "Power PC" will not work.

You're welcome. Yes Snow Leopard will run on the computer. An upgrade to the OS does not harm any of your pictures, music etc, BUT, and a very important but, it is always important to have at least one backup of your files.
