Remote App has problema after Apple TV and IOS 6.1 update

After performing all updates the remote app is not able to access an Apple TV from ipad. It justs keeps trying to connect.

Iphone and ipod touch work ok but all iPads (gen 2 and gen 3 and mini) don't.

All was working Ok before updates.

Anybody else seeing this?

I think there's nothing to do but wait. The fact that many of us are experiencing the same problem with the iPad app, and the fact that the iPhone app still works fine, tells me it's a glitch in the software - maybe Apple TV 5.2, maybe iOS 6.1 (I updated to both yesterday).

Meanwhile, since Apple does not read these forums, I suggest we all leave comments on their feedback page: http://www.apple.com/feedback/appletv.html

That way they'll at least know a bunch of us are having this issue.

Hopefully Apple will issue a fix soon.

Hello all,

I'm adding a question 6 to the above list of questions:

If you are unable to connect to your Apple TV from Remote.app after applying yesterday's Apple TV update:

1. What version of iOS do you have on your device?

Ipad3 4g Verizon IOS6.1, iPhone 5 IOS 6.1, Apple TV 3 IOS 5.2 (6010.96)

2. What device and generation are you using?

3. How is your Apple TV connected to your Wireless network? (directly or through Ethernet)

Ethernet to router

4. Were you using iTunes Match on your Apple TV prior to updating?

Not using ITunes Match

5. Have you been able to resolve the issue, and if so, how?

Updated apple tv3 to 5.2

Updated ipad 3 to 6.2

Updated iPhone 5 to 6.2

After updates iphone 5 was able to control Apple TV 3 with remote.app

After updates ipad3 4g was not able to connect to Apple TV 3 with remote.app but could connect to computer with iTunes Sharing.

Yes I have resolved the issue of my ipad3 4g that was not connecting to the Apple TV 3 with the Remote.app by first restarting Ipad3 4g, deleting Remote.app on ipad reinstalling, then used iPhone 5 to restart Apple TV.

6. Are you able to connect using Remote with any other device? If so, what kind and what iOS version?

I experienced continued issues of not being able to connect my ipad3 4g to apple tv3 with remote.app when trying to wake the apple tv up from sleep mode. I did a few rounds of testing and have found the only way that the ipad3 4g will connect to the apple tv3 is by doing the following steps in sequence:

1: Open remote.app on ipad and try to connect to Apple TV. Let the circle spin trying to connect.

2: Restart using another remote that does work with Apple TV, in my case iPhone 5.

3: During some point in the Apple TV boot sequence the Ipad remote.app will connect

4: in the remote.app click the four arrow symbol for gesture control

5: at this point I am controlling Apple TV with the ipad

After connecting the ipad to Apple TV and then switching to an ITunes Shared Library I then can not switch back to connect to Apple TV as it will sit at trying to connect. It appears that my ipad3 4g will only connect to Apple TV 3 at some point in the Apple TV boot cycle as described above.

Hello Roy,

1. What version of iOS do you have on your device? iPad 3 iOS 6.1, iPad 2 iOS 6.1, iPhone 5 iOS 6.1, iPhone 4S iOS 6.1, iPhone 4 iOS 6.1 and Apple TV 3rd gen 5.2.

2. What device and generation are you using? Already answered.

3. How is your Apple TV connected to your Wireless network? (directly or through Ethernet) Through Ethernet.

4. Were you using iTunes Match on your Apple TV prior to updating? No.

5. Have you been able to resolve the issue, and if so, how? No. And I had to turn off and on Home Sharing for only 'seeing' Apple TV on any Remote app. But Remote on iPad still doesn't connect.

6. Are you able to connect using Remote with any other device? If so, what kind and what iOS version? Yes, with iPhone devices (with iOS 6.1) works ok (after I can see the Apple TV on Remote app, of course).

On a side note, I have problems with AirPlay button since updating my iOS devices to 6.1 and Apple TV to 5.2. I can only see the AirPlay button on my iOS devices if I turn off and on AirPlay on Apple TV (similar solution as above). But after it goes to sleep and time goes by, AirPlay button disappears again on all of my iOS devices.

Thanks and sorry for my English.

I can also confirm that the following does work once:

1. Turn on the remote app on ipad

2. Try to connect to Apple TV

3. App will try to connect, but won't be successful. Spinner wheel keeps spinning without connecting.

4. Leave the remote app open and trying to connect. Don't let it go to sleep or change focus.

5. Restart the ATV via original remote or iphone app

6. ATV will begin to restart. Keep the app on the ipad running and trying to connect (It will still be spinning)

7. Sometime during the ATV boot process the ipad Remote app WILL connect to the ATV.

8. The app will then work normally until the ipad sleeps, you move away from the app or use the itunes feature in the app. Anything that causes the app to have to try and re-establish connection with the ATV will cause it not to work again and it will just sit spinning.
