Apple TV Can't "Access iTunes Store" after UPDATE. The SOLUTION.

It has been a while since I updated my ATV2. The past update was the one which added the new "movies/TV Shows/Music/etc" icons to the bottom half of the welcome screen.


Tonight I purchased a movie from the iTunes store, then decided to update the ATV while i was cooking dinner... I came back to an updated ATV (updated to v5.2) and when I tried to accesss Movies, the ATV would start "Accessing iTunes Store" then do a soft reset... I thought this was odd, so then I tried to access the TV Shows and the exact same issue occured... I then tried to access Netflix and YouTube too see if there was a network issue, however there was no problem with those applications.... Finally I tried to access PodCasts, boom, soft reset yet again. *Interesting enough when I "mouse over" the Movies and TV Show icons, the ATV is able to pull the "Top Movies" from the store and display them.* - I found this rather strange, if it can access this... why not access the store???


I came to the conclusion that there was an issue with my ATV connecting to the iTunes store... for some reason everytime it attempts to access the store, it seems to bug out and cause a soft reset (the screen goes black, the light flashes, then I'm returned to the home screen).


IF YOU ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE OR A SIMILIAR ONE THERE IS A SIMPLE SOLUTION THAT I JUST FIGURED OUT. GO TO SETTINGS>ITUNES STORE>ACCOUNTS>SIGN OUT.... THEN SIGN OUT OF YOUR ITUNES ACCOUNT, THEN SIGN BACK IT... BOOOOOOM PROBLEM FIXED!!! WISH I TRIED THIS EARLIER..... ONLY TOOK ME 2 HOURS TO FIGURE OUT.

All this squawking about separating posts into multiple topics is rediculous.


Half an hour of googling lead me here to THIS THREAD. I don't have time to read every other thread that might be similar to find the fix.


While issue is the same ( identical things my ATV2 wouldn't do as the OP and others) a simple sign out and sign in didn't work for me...and I didn't want to re-enter all my config data.


BUT signing out of iTUnes and doing a Restart ( General>Restart) while signed out worked. Signed back in to iTUnes and everything is good.


You see WInston, sometimes there are multiple solutions for the same BS problem. It's helpful if they are ALL in the same place instead of spreading them all over the place.

THIS DIDNT WORK.

Wont let me sign in and sign out.


So I just did a RESET in settings.. Typed in my Internet Password and the error message says:

There was a problem connecting to the network. The WiFi password is not correct. Try again (-3294)


I will try again. This is a nightmare. Been trying to watch the final season of Breaking Bad for a month..

Will not connect.

Looks like I'm a little late to the discussion of this problem, as I didn't discover the problem until last night (2/7/2014).


I had the automatic updates setting turned OFF on my ATV, but the update came through anyhow. I suppose Apple determined that the update was important enough to force it down. However, It would've been nice that as a part of the update, they presented a message to the user to the ATV needed to be restarted, and gave instructions on how to do so.


Anyway, to fix the problem I:


1. Signed out of iTunes Store.

2. Signed out of iCloud.

3. Fully rebooted my ATV (not just put it to sleep).

4. Signed into iTunes Store and iCloud.


Afterward, everything worked fine. 🙂
