My iphone 5 suddenly died. It will not turn on when I plug it in. It was working well the night before and nothing happened to it over night. The battery was charged.

My phone just died as well,it was working fine and I was using it normally and then it just was suddenly dead😮 .I got shocked that what happens to such highest value iphone, what must be the reason, not any I know from my side.I google it than come to a solution of toggling the silent button and other combinations suddenly it just switch on after wating couples of seconds I can see the Apple sign.Really that was the worst moment for me.
I dont know what was that but I really want Apple to seriously look into that issue,I want to thank RJM for finding out the solution.
Really not expecting this from iphone. Now i dont ever want to be a victim of that otherwise I will surely apply for the replacement as after warranty I can't afford its service charges.
I lost my iphone5 to sudden death, and even could not try anything by myself as it have no open parts or things to do. Being busy in strict business routine and a sim which cant be supported by any other phone i thought of bearing some losses due to leads which would have been lost meanwhile.THX RJM for your valuable advice. It works....🙂
Tried this. It worked after iphone 5 jus switched of randomly.
Thank you
Holy **** that was scary!! Tried the same thing and was very relieved that it worked!! Maybe a few more toggles and stuff but some combo of it worked!!
Thanks RJM
Omg this just happened to me!!! However, after flicking the silent/ringer switch and holding the home and sleep button I was able to fix it. Thank you so much! 🙂
Omg all of sudden happend to me also.....its was dead.....and became too hot...i searched at google and came across holding home and sleep button together... voila here came the apple logo.....what a relief....thanks a lot :-)
Seconding the other people, the solution of toggling the ringer switch + holding the home and power buttons at the same time also worked for me! Although I had to let go of the buttons and then the Apple logo appeared...that was a super painful two seconds. The phone quickly powered up after that and everything worked as normal. I made a Genius Bar appointment before I found the way to fix this and even though it seems fine now I'm still planning to go in and ask them why the heck this happens. Thanks for helping me and others, RJM 🙂
There is nothing mysterious here. This is a standard procedure documented in the manual to reboot the phone. Except you don't have to toggle the ringer switch. Just hold HOME and SLEEP at the same time until an Apple logo appears, which will take 10-20 seconds of holding.
The fix might not be so mysterious, but I would certainly like to know why I had to resort to it in the first place. Is it a software failure? Hardware? I feel super uncomfortable not knowing the cause as I have no way of knowing what will trigger it again.
You mean you have NEVER had to reboot your computer? Never gotten a Blue Screen of Death in Windows, or a kernel panic in OS X or Linux? The iphone is a computer. The operating system can crash, just like it can with any other computer.
RJM provides a fix that works. Once you have your iPhone up and running, remember to close out all open apps occassionally. If you maintain too many open apps it can carsh the system (suddenly dies and cannot turn it back on). Do this often to avoid crashing the OS!
Thank you so much rjm it really worked
It would have worked without toggling the mute switch also 🙂
thank you so much! it worked and my phone is now back to normal 🙂
