My iphone 5 suddenly died.

My iphone 5 suddenly died. It will not turn on when I plug it in. It was working well the night before and nothing happened to it over night. The battery was charged.

Hi, use this method (RJM's method):

1) identify the 'mute'/'silent' button above the volume button

2) toggle/move the silent button back and forth twice, then hold home and power button together for some seconds ( 5 to 20 seconds)

3) if apple logo does not appear, repeat steps 1 and 2 a few times.

4) in my own case, after repeating steps 1 and 2 a few times, i pressed home and power buttons together and toggled the silent button a few times without releasing the other 2 buttons. It took several attempts but it worked. My brother had abandoned the phone after it died about 6 months ago.

@Lawrence Finch Well, I don't think it's completely comparable to PCs. In case of a computer, be it a Windows machine or a MacBook, you either get a BSOD, or a kernel panic message, anything. In case of an iOS crash I and other people here experienced, you get NOTHING. Just a black screen, pressing the Home button or the Power button doesn't work so without looking into the manual you won't guess what's going on and what you need to do. This is a problem.

Also, it hasn't happened to me even once during the two years I've used my iPhone 4. I switched to the 5s yesterday and today it crashed in this way... Boy, that was scary (mainly because of no feedback!).

I have had my iPhone 5 for a year. The top and home buttons work when they want. Tonight I sent a text and right after my iPhone went black. Still had 90% battery. I tried the top and home button as I would normally do for a reset but nothing happened. After several attempts I decided to do a search and found this thread.

I tried RJMs way and the Apple logo comes up but then fades away and does nothing. Tried several times and same result. I have had every iPhone up til this iPhone 5 and never had issues. Apples quality is taking a hit.

My iphone 5 suddenly died.
