No it doesn't.

I'm sorted I think now and genieo has gone, but there is that lingering doubt as to whether some malware is left hidden behind, so I may get a virus checker to ensure. I have learned a lesson here though... Genieo was embedded in a link to Minecraft.

Note that most anti-virus apps don't detect Genieo as malware (or even a PUA). Further, I'm not sure whether the anti-virus apps that do look for it would even detect all components or not. So it's unlikely that downloading an anti-virus app will help you in any way. If you followed my instructions accurately, you've removed everything.

Point taken.... I guess if genieo is not officially malware, it wouldn't be suspected.

I downloaded the uninstall software... followed the instructions and like a bad dream geieo still pops up. Repeated the process and there it is again. Aye yi yi. Please don't tell me I have to wipe my hard drive. UGH!

If only! I used the "uninstall" (yeah, right) software and there is nothing to move to trash. It technically doesn't exist yet keeps popping up. Shame on Genieo!

I had the same issue with Genieo on my mac.

I found this article http://www.thesafemac.com/arg-genieo/ followed the instructions and there is no longer any sign of it on Safari!

The author says NOT to follow the uninstall provided by Genieo!

i sent an email to the corp hq in israel, threatening to sue them for false marketing (lanham act equiv). companies like this **** me off...if my product isn't GOOD ENOUGH for people to voluntarily use it... then I am a piece of SH*T company that can only trick consumers...

Interesting. They threatened to sue a colleague of mine for libel who published some stories on their intrusive methods. I think we are all watching the Chicago vs. MacKeeper class action suit to see how that turns out, then maybe we can go after some of these international companies that deliver something different from than what's promised.

kind of canned.. but at this point i appear to have it removed. i haven't had something so insidious - as far as installs go, for some time... it's absurd that i was downloading a barcode app generator and then have a news customization software? ugh.

That's a Genieo installer, flagged by 20 anti-virus apps. Most only identify it as a "potentially unwanted application," but some identify it as malware.

Sophos is a free Mac anti-virus that will remove Genieo and other viruses. Will scan external drives as well. Recommended.
