Re-Publishing on i Web

Can someone please help me get out of this maze ?

I have amended the content of my original iWebsite and have been trying to republish it without success as the original site is still on line!

I contacted my host - HostPapa - who told me to empty the cache

I use a Mac OS X 10.8.2 and having contacted Apple to find out how to do this proceedure I was told to go to Preferences > Privacy and remove all web site data . I did this and the old web site was still there !! they then told me to 'Reset Safari' I did this and its still there !!

I tried republishing the new site to no avail

Is life long enough ??

Any help will be appreciated - Thanks

If it's in the same state as yesterday you have two separate copies of the site on the server, one in a folder with the site name with no capitalization, and then another set of the pages at root level of the webspace. If you publish with the revised site name you will add yet another version, and all will get indexed by Google.

I would advise using an FTP program such as CyberDuck and clearing out the webspace completely before doing a complete publish.

CyberDuck is free but there are others - Yummy, as Roddy suggests, or Transmit, which I think is very good (though you will have to purchase Transmit).

When you go to the server you will probably find several files or folders at root level: there will likely be one called public_html and your webspace resides inside that. You shouldn't attempt to tamper with anything at the top level (probably you can't anyway).

My sincere thanks to Jeff, Roger and Roddy - you guys have been a great help in getting my site up and running.

I still have a couple of glitches to sort out relating to publishing to the correct directory but that can wait until I need to change the content.

Meanwhile if you wish you can access the site on www.davidholtartist.com

I shall go away and lie down in a darkened room !

Thanks again
