Just used the steps in this thread and got things working fine. It seems counter intuitive (creating/converting an AIFF to an ACC, then dragging it to the Desktop and deleting it from iTunes and then editing the suffix and then...) Just do it. It works. Part of the problem is that converting an AIFF to (supposedly) an ACC actually ends up with the file having ".m4a". "I thought I asked to convert it to "ACC"?! Well, you did, but its generic type/suffix is still m4a. ;-)

THIS PROCEDURE WORKS !!!!

Using the MacBook Pro (Snow Leopard 10.6.8) and a new iPhone 5S Gold (iOS 7.03) and iTunes 11.1.2...

1) I started iTunes, select Preferences and "General" tab, enabled the "Tones" to view in iTunes (it was off, I suspect by default). A new Library option appeared on the iTunes side bar for "Tones"....

2) I downloaded "aimer-video-converter-intel_full265.dmg" and installed;

http://www.aimersoft.com/tutorial/mp3-to-m4r-converter-guide.html

3) Started up the Aimersoft video application and select the "audio" option at the bottom of the application window and dropped my mp3 (or other file formats) to the converter window and select "M4R" converter option (there is a row of options to select from at the bottom of the window, use the scroll arrows until you see "M4R" and click on that)... it converted the file and dropped it into iTunes!!!! (Pretty amazing and simple.).

4) I connected my new iPhone 5S Gold and in iTunes a new option shows up, "Tones" to sync to. I clicked on that and select "All Tones" (or you could use the "Selected Tones" option) and I did a "Sync" to iTunes and my new iPhone... they all then load into my iPhone 5S Gold..

5) On the iPhone 5S Gold open the "Settings" APP, then select the "Sounds" option, then select "Ringtones" and my new ringtones how up there, at the top of the list, separated from the other ringtones that come with the phone, I select my new ringtone and it all is working great!

Thank you all others/previous responders, I got this from you, just thought maybe I could clarify the procedure!

Have a great day!:^)

The main way that always works is to download a ringtone making app like Ringtone Designer.

Next you will want to choose what song you want as your ringtone which has to be on your iphone and choose the segment, then save the ringtone.

Then you will want to plug in your iphone to your computer and go in the apps tab where is shows all the apps on your iphone.

There you will see the apps that you can store stuff on (file sharing) and you will see ringtone designer.

After clicking on ringtone designer you will see all the ringtones you have saved.

Then you will want to drag the song you want onto your desktop or another folder.

Once it copied, copy it back into itunes.

Once it is back in itunes it will create a category like "movies", "tv shows", and "music" called "tones"

**It will ONLY make a "tones" category AFTER you have copied the song back into itunes.**

From there you will want to sync whatever tones you want onto your iphone

To see your new ringtone you will have to go into settings - sounds - ringtone...

It should be at the top before the ringtone categories

Finally you will want to go into settings to set your new ringtone as the default ringtone or go into contacts to set that ringtone for an individual contact

That has worked every time for me and I have 10 active ringtones

Good luck!

This is a horrific experience. I followed the wiki and found myself stuck in a web. My Samsung Galaxy S3 was simply Google Play store, click the ringtone (for free) and logged it to the Phone settings. 10 minutes at most. This was a debacle, not what I expect from Apple. The guy at the store also made it look so easy using Garage Band and setting up a ringtone, which was also difficult to duplicate. Gah!

I have to tell you... Samsungs and Android pretty much are not very good products, they are a hack, fun to play with as an Engineer/Hacker, but not nearly as functional as any Apple product, especially for consumers, which I am not, but my family is... we're all Apple!!!!:^) (Though I know Mac, PC, iOS, Android, Windows and etc., I support and deal with all daily and hands down, all Apple Products are far superior to the others....)

As a Developer, Android is not an easy platform to dev for.

Apple products always work, dev for is easy and one app works on all devices and can easily, in minutes to be converted into a MacBook/MacPro APP....

And Apple Products are the Rolex/Ferarri of the computing world! Beautiful design, extremely functional!

I just received a new iPhone 5S Gold and it is an extraordinary device, unlike any android plastic.

I found it very simple to get ringtones to my iPhone, and that includes creating my own and putting them on my new iPhone 5S Gold!

Unfortunately, I think you've been damaged by your Samsung experience...

And why would you even comment about Android/Samsung within this discussion?

Sincerely,

I haven't come back here since I posted my previous comment in March because in the meantime I found an app called Ringmaker which is pretty simple to use and they tell you the steps. It still has to go through iTunes but just reading some of the complicated 7-10-15 steps instructions around the net gives me a headache. These things should not be so complicated!

Anyway, my problem was solved with this app and I have all my favourite songs as ringtones on my iPhone now.

Thanks to all for your contributions!

My opinion, Iphone priced like a ferrari, looks like a ferrari but doesn't work like one! Speaking from a user standpoint. Not even comparing it with Samsung, just comparing it with a not so smart phone but does things faster and more seamless than an iphone. Try transferring files from pc for instance without using any other supporting apps! Try create customised ringtones without itunes and PC. It needs alot of supporting apps to do a simple chore! U can't transfer photos/music from pc to be exact. The method provided in the manual is actually syncing not transferring.

The developer probably didn't have "user friendliness" at the top of their heads while designing it!
