remote connection fail

Remote Connection to Time Capsule from a remote network fails.

I am using the latest firmwaire on Time Capsule ( 4th generation )

Latest update and OS on my macbook pro.

The time capsule is connected to a cable modem, which, in turn, is connected to the internet / cable.

I have a dynamic IP address from the ISP.

Problem:

When outside of my home WiFi network, I can see the Time Capsule in my finder under " shared ". Clicking on it, starts the connection, but results in an error after about 50 seconds, saying that the connection to the Time Capsule failed.

In contrast, I have a mac mini, hard-wire connected directly into the cable modem. when outside of my home network, I see my mac mini in finder and I can connenect to it!

I guess that the problem is that I have a cable modem between the Time Capsule and the internet, which does not allow me to connect to the Time Capsule.

I need very specific/detailed step by step instructions how to fix this problem as I am not so IT savvy.

Many thanks in advance !

Hi LaPastenague,

I have a similar problem, please help.

my setup:

.AEBS 5th gen latest firmware, already added BTMM icloud acc, green light come up

.some old D-link modem/router. i disable the wireless function and hook it to the AEBS and use wifi from AEBS.

.latest airport utility, MBA moutain lion

prob: when I set AEBS to DHCP & NAT, it gives Double NAT warning, if i disable NAT on the D-Link theres no internet anymore (though AEBS stil show green light)

-> change AEBS to Brige mode, it ask me to turn NAT or UPnP on

either case, the remote access to NAS doesnt work

Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you!

But you do not need to share the disk over wan.. you have no WAN in bridge.

You can access the TC in bridge. the main router needs to have uPnP turned on so BTMM can turn on the necessary ports to access it. It is better if you can place the TC as the main router and bridge your modem.. but if not, then you have no choice but to use TC bridged.. I have tested access to a bridged TC directly and had no issues.

How do i bridge my modem? It use PPoE with an acc to log in internet from my isp

I cannot give you specifics if you do not give me specifics..

There are about 1 zillion models of adsl modems in the world. My crystal ball has a big crack in it and the smoky interior is now empty.. so I cannot discover it by voodoo, black arts, or any other process without you telling me.

Brand, make, Model, firmware even. Then I can tell you how to bridge it if that is possible.. There is a good chance that someone else has done it before.. so if you google.. fredblogs modemxyz bridge there could be a blog or a post or a youtube video with instructions.

You use the pppoe client in the TC. Here it is in v5 utility. Similar to this in v6..

something here might also help you.

If you use the port mapping method (number 3 in that doco) there is no need to even use BTMM and iCloud.

A normal modem router can simply forward port 548 to the bridged TC. And you can setup dyndns client in the modem.. that is lacking in the TC so it is better to keep your modem as a router for this method.
