Like I've been saying it is eiother some New Feature that Apple has implemented (could be to help the retina system cool so they don't fail while they have a warranty on them) or it is a Major Snafu ipn manufacturing or hardware.

The bad part is if it a defect Apple will never Recall them. They just don't do that. They may extend the warranty period and once that is up and your system fails you are SOL. Just like the 2007/2008 NVidia problem. Those Mac notebooks should of been Recalled and Fixed.

I had the mid 2012 15" retina pro for about a week (with no issues). However when I saw them refresh it I figured I'd exchange it even though the only difference is .1ghz its a 2k+ laptop. Anyways I've had the new one now for three days (early 2013) and haven't had any of these issues mentioned with the fan. The only time the fans come on is when I'm playing a graphic intense game which really is normal.

10.8.3, at least the latest build, do not fix this issue. I've been running the latest beta on my new rMBP, and was not help.

I don't know why iCloud would be doing this, but I noticed that the issue was only happening in my account, and not in any other and the only difference was I was signed into iCloud. Systematically, I started testing, and the issue disappeared once I singed out of iCloud. I've started adding one component back at a time, and testing. My guy tells me that Find my Mac or Back to My Mac might be the cause, since they interact with the firmware I believe.

Count me in as another person with this problem. Just bought the 2.7/16/512 yesterday, and upon loading my usb3 drive for a 50gb transfer, the fan goes to full less than 30 seconds in. I have the machine sitting next to both a 13 and 15 2012 rmbp, and neither one even has a fan goes crazy on handbrake. I was so impressed with the two refurbs I bought, I said "what the ****" and bought a brand new high-end model. Turns out, it doesnt feel so high end.

WIll be going to apple today, showing them the issue, testing it with a machine on the floor, and leaving with my money if they all do it. Not for 2700$. Ever.

EDIT: oddly handbrake does NOT max the fans out (cpu states 100c), so this appears to be an issue on my box with USB transfers (cpu states 40c).

Same issue here. Just had my retina replaced for the second time. First issue was with display image persistance, but my last two machines have been suffering this ridiculous fan issue. This is a $3000 machine, give me a break. This is not software related, as I did not use any Time Machine backup to restore files on the newest replacement, yet it appears to be worse than the last. I have never experienced this on any of the six Macs I've owned. Don't let someone tell you "it's normal". Starting to wish I would've kept my original retina with the image persistance problem. At least I didn't have to raise my voice to talk to the person sitting next to me while using it.

I couldn't put up with the fans keep on going off all the time. I have had two mid 2012 versions and they are now sending me a 2013 version to see if this works.

It's so annoying as I love the computer but can't put up with something that is broken from the beginning and paying over £2000 I want it to be right.

Does anyone have any more news. Apple when I spoke to them are playing dumb and say they don't know anything about it
