Has anyone been able to upgrade a mid-2007 20-inch to 4GB?

I have been tryng to install 2 2GB memory modules in my mid-2007 iMac and it will not boot with both memory modules installed. When I go to several memory suppliers they say that this model will only allow 3GB, but the Apple specs say 4GB.

Has anyone beena bel to upgrade to 4GB?

I have now gone through 2 upgrade kite trying to make 4GB work wihtout success. This is getting costly.

Thanks,

Jeff

thanks for your clarification stedman 1. I obviously ordered the incorrect RAM based on the info from the apple logo - system references

- hardware overview, which still indicates 800MHz as per the following -

Hardware Overview: Model Name: iMac Model Identifier: iMac7,1 Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Speed: 2 GHz Number of Processors: 1 Total Number of Cores: 2 L2 Cache: 4 MB Memory: 3 GB Bus Speed: 800 MHz Boot ROM Version: IM71.007A.B03 SMC Version (system): 1.20f4 Serial Number (system): W8804PJ8X85 Hardware UUID: 00000000-0000-1000-8000-001EC211181E

The supplier from whom I sourced the incorrect RAM 400MHz RAM also has 4GB (2x2) DD2 667MHz

further to my previous post, I obtained the correct 2 x 2GB 667mHZ RAM a couple of days ago - it works fine, so again thank you for the advice. As cost is one of the main considerations when buying additional RAM, particularly for an old computer with low residual value,

I sourced from an Asian ebay supplier with history and a high rating who has agreed to refund the cost of the 800mHZ RAM I am returning.
