Macbook Air wifi only works in Apple Store!!

My 2011 Macbook Air had been decent wifi until I had the disply replaced. Since then it connects and no more. It takes 100 times longer than normal, and sometimes doesn't load at all. And depending on proximity and strength of the network it won't connect at all sometimes.

I took it back in and they checked it out and there was nothing wrong with the hardware and the wifi worked perfectly in the Apple Store.

So I checked around various networks including, three different houses, an iCafe and a University campus. In University it just refused to connect. In some of the others it would connect but as I said take forever.

Other devices connected to the networks had no problems of course. In fact my wifi is 100mbps.

However after a full system erase and reinstall of Mountain Lion (in the Apple store!) the problem persists, and mysteriously it still flies in the Apple Store!

So they of course refused to do anything because they couldn't see a problem. But it doesn't work on any other networks!

I've heard this before - the antenna connection was damaged / loosened when the display was replaced. The signal in the store is strong, so it still picks it up without the antenna.

They should fix it for you - not your fault.

I have been using Windows for over 20 years and in that time I can count on one hand the BSODs I have ever had. In fact they wouldn't take all my fingers to count them.

Mac OS X is no better. Maybe if you browse through these forums you might realize that. Why do you think there are Thousands of posts everyday. People just stopping by to say Hi How You Doing?

If you had problem with Windows more then likely it can be traced back to User Error or faulty hardware or drivers. Not directly to the OS.

So Apple is a Closed system. For some theat may be good. For others, like me, it is not.

Then you take that line out of context and Where did I NOT answer the questions? Did you see who got the "This Solved My Question" Nod and another Nod for "This Helped"?

Well just sayin. You sure sound like a Fan Boy.

I'm just here because I own a Mac and I'm trying to help other that need it. What are you doing here?

Yes, there are many posts, but this isn't a place to say "Look! My Mac is running well!" this is a place where people post problems and issues, so that's all you're going to see here. Its like going to a hospital, you aren't going to find anyone who doesn't have an issue (or someone who doesn't think they have an issue) at a hospital. I would never say that Macs or any product is issue free, because I'd be lying to myself and others and that would make me a fanboy. Out of the tens of millions of Macs that exist, most people don't have an issue with them, that can be said about pretty much any platform. I never said "Windows *****" or "Buy a Mac haha!!" because that would be inapropriate, and I don't think Windows "*****" its just not for me, I've used both Windows AND OS X and I prefer OS X for many reasons. If you prefer Windows, that's great! Honestly I couldn't care less about what platform you use, everyone has different needs and tastes. The user is never wrong, they know exactly what they want.

I'm "just here" because I have a lot of experience with Apple products and I'm trying to use my knowledge to help as many people as I can. I'm not here to try and ram my opinions down people's throats.

Also, every time I have ever mentioned I have had issues with Windows, a biased person always tells me its a "user error". I can assure you that most of them weren't, there are many factors that can cause a problem.

Everyone has different experiences with different products, to say that one "*****" is dumb and closed minded. To say that one "***** FOR YOU" or doesn't "work FOR YOU or YOUR needs" is 1000000000% acceptable. I am certianly not a "fanboy" I honestly admit when I don't like something about an Apple product (I actually posted a rant on my Facebook a few weeks ago about how I am starting to hate iOS) and I also tell people when an Apple product may be too expensive, overkill or just simply won't work for what they need to do. I literally JUST recommended a Nexus 7 to someone on another forum over an iPad Mini because of their budget and their needs. I ususlly will recommend Apple products, because they work for a lot of people and I like them a lot, but I acknowledge that there is no "one-size-fits-all" product. I am glad we live in a generation with so many choices. 🙂
