iWeb publishing nightmare

Hi everyone,

I just updated to iWeb 1.1 via software update, and now I can't publish anything to my .Mac page. I updated, and then made a new page (within my we site) in iWeb. I then pasted a long text-document from Pages in it, and hit Publish. It "created" the page, then said it would upload it. Well in the last step of uploading, I got an error saying "An error occurred while publishing file “/Web/Sites/iWeb/Site/Rotary-2006 files/DSC01793framed.png”."
That file path is pointing to a page (a photo album) that was already published, and had been on the web for a while. I haven't deleted any of the pictures associated with it, so I don't know why it's having a problem. But none of the pictures are in the .png format, so I think the _framed.png portion of that file path may be pointing to one of iWeb's template files.

I even tried removing that photo page and re-publishing, but then it picks another picture out of another page that, again, should not be affected with this uploading a new text-only page.

Any one had the same problem?

Thanks!

You can manually publish to .Mac and still get all of the special .Mac-only features by following these steps:

1) Choose "Publish All to .Mac" from the file menu.

2) As soon as you get the message that your site upload will continue in the background, open Applications > Utilities > Terminal

3) In Terminal type:

open /var/tmp

4) A Finder window will open. Find the folder called "folder.SomeNumber". Open it and then open the TemporaryItems folder. In it should be several folders called com.apple.iWeb Some_LongNumber. In one of them you will find a folder called "sites" that contains all of your sites from iWeb ready to upload to .Mac.

5) Copy (Option-Drag) this "sites" folder to your desktop

6) Now you can upload the contents of that folder to the proper location on your iDisk (the correct path is iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb/)

Ok guys, I need your opinion. I haven't updated my iWeb application because I was out of town and now that im back I see people are having problems with the update. My question, is it really wide spread? Is it happening to everyone? Should I update or not? Sorry for putting this here but I thought it would be a waste to create a new topic for this dumb question. Thanks! =)

I thought iWeb v1.1 was not publishing properly at first, so I came here. But it is indeed working fine, at least for me.

When I initially clicked to publish, iWeb v1.1 asked if I wanted to just publish the modifications or republish all my (3) sites for greater efficiency. I clicked on the latter, longer proicess. Instead of showing the old bar loading for the duration of the publishing process, iWeb now shows publishing progress using little pie-chart like circles next to the site name in the Site Organizer column on the left.

I thought the app was crashed when I clicked to Publish but didn't notice those little circles, and many features were grayed-out - including the Publish button on the bottom left of the window. It was in fact publishing, and just taking a while. (Kind of like I've just done.)

Is it possible that some of you are experiencing my non-problem and misinterpreting it as a problem? Perhaps I'm just one of the lucky ones, or else some Apple server/bandwidth issue has been resolved. I can't know but thought I'd share my experience with you just in case.

I don't think so bob...

One reason is a message saying that "publishing will continue in background" alerting users of the new upload process.

In fact, this problem is not new at all...happens everytime there is a large quantity of users trying to update their sites at the same time, after a hollyday, for example.

Seems that .Mac is not able to handle all iWeb users at the same time.

It is a shame, because iWeb is pretty nice, but the .Mac side of the app is lame...

I had to force myself back to version 1.0 and I am 90% thru upload after one hour and more. Urgent stuuf needed upload to my overseas clients.

I shall update my iWeb again once Apple fixes this problem. I had no problems with 1.1 earlier today when it involved minor updates. Those updates were fast and without problems. Then I had to upload three new pages and it took 30 minutes before various error messages came thru. That was 7 hours ago. I could have watched 'The Lord of the Rings' Trilogy. Everything everyone experienced, I did too. Here's hoping for smoother sailing.

All the above is happening to me. Just want to add my weight to this angry mob! I have pitch-fork and flaming torch to hand. Now which way to Cupertino?

Just kidding Apple tech guys, maybe you are 'vicims of your own success' with iWeb/.Mac. You're usually quite proactive on these things, so lets hope we get a speedy resolution!

Cheers

Jon
