Java for OSX Mountain Lion

Is this still a valid answer, today is 2013 June 06 and we're on 10.8.4.

I just installed Java for my wireless printer. Java is killing my laptop! Java changed permissions in my library and does not allow me to administer it, I cannot find how to remove it. I'm getting the WHITE SCREEN hard-crashing, after Java was installed.

Please help, if you can.

What is Java for my wireless printer. I don't do wireless stuff, but if you want an answer, I suggest you provide the details on the update (from who and which) and the printer.

I'm using the wireless printer "Brother MFC J615W" and is highly compatible with Apple's newer models' wireless network.

Before 10.8.3, I was able to remote administer the printer with a breeze, no extras required, just the drivers, etcetera. After upgrading to 10.8.3, then 10.8.4, I was not able to administrate the scan/print, etcetera. This printer is dedicated to the Apple computers, so, I decided to check for new drivers and see if the Control Center app, named "ControlCenter.app", had a newer version. I downloaded directly from here, the manufacture's website.

When I began installing, I had to download Java from Oracle. I went to Oracle.com and downloaded "jre-7u21-macosx-x64.dmg"

Ugly design, by the way.

I was able to admin the printer, all was fine, then the macbook pro began acting very strange. I reboot, keep working then the fan was on like HIGH SPEED FULL ON. I close everyhting and reboot. I began investigating then everything seemed fine. I began working, no changes made at this point. FLASH! The screen turns brilliantly white with an elegant death screen. It failed. I've never seen one of my laptops or desktops crash, ever. The statement said something like "... Had a problem"... "must reboot"... it did its reboot. I back-up, begin to investigate, found in apple.com discussion to use disk utility, verify permissions, permissions are not able to be corrected with "Repair Permissions". Here I am. When I reboot, now, I get a screen that has the thatched pattern, the gray colored pattern. I have to hard-reboot and go into safe-mode now. This is on day 2 so I haven't began to dig in, the "Panic" code states chrome? or Java?

The only change was Java being placed into the OS. That's it. This Macbook Pro is under warranty and I've not had any issues, it's fast and perfect (for me).

Boot into safe mode (restart holding down SHIFT key). If no KP, then disable these, reenable one at time to determine which. If KP, then most likely hardware related. Run the Apple Hardware Test suite, extended tests at least twice, followed by Rember. See

I apologize if this comes across as daft, however, when I boot into safe mode, do I disable one-by-one, which? I understand "Greatdy", which one after this? If No Kernal Panic, disable Greatdy, disable Java? disable Brother Control Suite, basically, anything new within the recent 3 months is what I'll do, however, How do I disable Java? I am not seeing how to do this properly? Do I just find all components related to the Java install as this is what began the whole crazines.

Everything else, I will follow like a robot. I know it is not hardware, I reboot my Macbook Pro last night and no Kernal Panic, though, I am not using heavy applications such as Adobe Master Suite, etcetera.

I believe you could be right about which item caused an issue, however, it has been in-use for almost a year and is directly form the App store, whereas, Java did not come from the App Store. Maybe besides the point.

AFAIK, when you boot into safe mode, no 3rd-party kexts are installed. So, if no KP, delete the Greatdy one an boot normally and see if that stops the KPs. If so, that should do it.

As for the components installed by the Java update, you'll need to use the Terminal app to open the hidden receipts folder, wherein you'll find the com.oracle.jre.bom file which lists where everything is stored with the Java update. If you want to explore further, launch the Terminal app in /Utilities, copy & paste this command into the window that pops up, and hit the return key:

open /var/db/receipts/

Next, type in lsbom, followed by a space, click on the com.oracle.jre.bom file in the receipts window, and drag it into the Terminal window. The command, after you do those steps should look like this:

lsbom /private/var/db/receipts/com.oracle.jre.bom

If so, then hit the return key. That will give you a list of everything the update installed and where.

I am having no KP, only the one that was associated with Greatdy after installation of Java re.

This computer is running slower, though, I did clear all cache, flush the temporary files and erased free-disk space.

All is well. I'm in contact with Greatdy to solve their Application that is in the App store.
