Interesting about the power cable, but I suppose it is possible.

Jon, when you get your replacement, let us know the outcome. I would like to see another person experiencing this same problem, try a different power cables to see if they can get the problem to disappear.

I might try a new cable, if I get some time soon. If I'm not mistaken, just for testing purposes, I think the iMac will accept any standard male to female PC power cable, even if it isn't their white colored one with the flat circle.

well im so happy i tried it out.. would ve never know how to solve it.

but it apparantly all depends on how tight your cable is.. wich is frikin stupid because it is the cheapest part of the computer i think.. be happy with the macbook pro though. that is also a beast. but i see your regret too though. apple should compensate all of u who have rotten cables.

fkn stupid thats the word.

Can i ask you, is it cold where you live right now? and did you get the iMac and started it up right away?when you get a replacement just let it acclimatize to the temperature of your room (keep it inside the box for about 2 hours in ur home.`) i wouldn't be supprised if condensation is the problem. or something else what can get damaged because fo rapid heat cold difference.

just some advice 🙂

I live in the Northeast and yes it it cold up here but inside my house is a constant 68 degrees .I picked it up from a warm store put it in a warm car and brought it into a warm house so I do not think it had time to cool down at all but this is does not seem thermal related to me it is a electrical static sound switching from side to side but as I am typing this It seems to have gone away for a short time .Im thinking I might live with noise as I waited so long for this one and I sold my old one and I cant be without my computer for too long I will call apple I guess .

hmm i wouldn't go sit with something you need to get used to + replacements get priotity so you could get a new next week at best. i finally have a completely good one now. that tik pop thingy gets worse over time i think. so don't take a chance with ur machine just get a replacement is my advice. and be carefull with everything towards the first start up.

hope u get it solved. or apple looks into this furter.. their lazy.

Ive had my 2nd replacement (ie 3rd mac) for 3 weeks and it seems to be crackle free. In total it has taken 3 months and 3 computers to get right which I feel is not acceptable for a premium desktop. Also, the most recent computer arrived with scatches on the back, bits of metal filings in the screen wrapping and dirty finger prints on the keyboard box - poor show Apple, I won't be buying any more of your products!
