PREVIEW: Why doesn't Preview estimate file size when saving-as?

I understand that Preview's "save-as" feature has changed -- now you must duplicate the image first, then save it.

However, when I save a duplicate (which is similar to the old "save-as" feature), I need to have the "Quality" slider linked to a feature that estimates the file size of the image I am saving.

Thhis was a function built right into the old Preview.

How can I enable it in the new Preview?

In other words, how can get Preview to estimate the file size (in KB) of the image I am saving when I slide the "Quality" slider?

Yes. It's in the Preferences/Options-Savings section:

HOWEVER, the size is only shown after resizing. It does allow one to quickly reset the jpeg quality till the desired size is achieved.

I was sure I had an app that would let one put in a target file size but can't find it at this time.

He says that he is adjusting quality, not image size. His target is 250kb, regardless of size.

That's good to know. Though it is a shame that something that was included now has to be paid for 😢

Just downloaded the demo. While it will give the new file size after changing the quality, before writing the image to disk it still isn't as seamless as the old Preview behavior was. You have to jump back and forth form the preference window where you change the quality to the output window to see what the new file size will be.
