why Safari don't load google sites

I purchased iMac and had a clean set up. I have Orcon (in NZ) my internet service provider. I have all updates done properly. Why my Safari won't load any google related sites after a while? It started a couple of days ago and I cannot figure out why. I didn't change any network settings or anything. Google just won't load, blogger won't load. google analytics won't load... I need to restart my iMac and then it works a while unitl Google won't load again... Does anybody have an answer? This is getting very frustrating. Thank you.

I've been having problems displaying several different google sites in Safari on my Retina MacBook, but I think I may have stumbled on to something that others may be able to pick up and run with. I looked in the preferences for Safari, and on the tab for Advanced, I put a checkmark into the option at the bottom to "show Develop menu in menu bar". Then, I looked at that menu, and saw the option to Show Error Console. I turned that on, then tried to access one of my Google sites. Then, when it stalled as it usually does, the error console listed a bunch or errors in red. On the right site, there were various codes or command references or something, but I noticed in a few of them that they contained "Adblock" in them. Then I thought that I should try to disable my Adblock plugin, and when I reloaded my page, it worked properly and the error console didn't show any errors.

So, basically, if you have Adblock enabled, try to disable it and then try loading the page again. I'll leave the "why" for the more technically inclined to provide answers for. 🙂

Cheers

Hi,

I just tried the solution form sk19 to first enable the developer menu to see if I get the adblok error message and then disbale the adblock.

No effect, I neither got error messages except the one I already had, "Can not connect to server" and that's it.

To be really sure I also deinstalled the adblock extension but I still can't open any off the google sites.

Hi,

I have it seems the same problem. I'm now at work on a Mac and here it al works, connecting to google, youtube, facebook. At home safari loads google, youtube etc very, very slow (3 minutes). Other sites don't seem to have the problem. I've looked at many discussions, but can't find the solution in those.

Problem started two days ago.

(specs: Safari 5.06, Mac OS X 10.5.8, at work the same)

Any suggestions?

I know this is a little old, but my Safari and Mail now show similar symptoms.

I am on 10.6.8, but this seems to be an OS version-independent problem as your systems range from 10.5 to 10.8.

Description

  • Certain sites will not display in Safari. Using the Activity window, I was able to confirm that any dependencies on content related to google, facebook, youtube (and probably others) is not loaded. In fact, sometimes it IS, but it takes at least one entire minute, which is definitely too long.
  • Mail is not able to connect to my gmail account (which is consistent with the Safari problem).

However

  • If I provide the IP addresses of the problematic sites (e.g. 173.194.70.113 for google.com), a connection can be established, indicating a DNS problem here.
  • Ping, traceroute etc. on the command line work just fine (which probably relates to the fact that their address resolution works differently than that of Safari and Mail (see the accepted answer of the question here).
  • Using Firefox instead of Safari works without any problem.
  • Using Safari on a second Macintosh computer in the same local network is working equally fine.

Failed attempts to solve the problem

  • resetting Safari
  • choosing different DNS servers in System Preferences and/or on my router
  • rebooting
  • creating another user, trying with that account
  • flushing DNS cache (
    sudo dscacheutil -flushcache
    )
  • killing mDNSResponder (
    sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder
    )
  • reloading mDNSResponder (
sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist; sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist)
    as proposed here.
  • replacing
    /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist
with a backup version from when the problem did not occur
  • complete recovery to a system state where everything was fine
  • resetting PRAM (did not expect that to help, but just to be sure)

I am beginning to think that this might be a problem with my router, although all other connected devices work well.

And I also want to mention that I had a power outage before the problem first occurred. Not sure whether this is related, though.
