lost my password for my apple tv now cannot connect ipad to tV, can anyone help?

It is not my phone passcode it is the passcode on apple TV
If you have forgot your phone passcode then that has nothing to do with Apple TV, and you will need to restore the phone in order to reset that.
You are replying to a thread from 2 years ago that is in regards to the airplay password. I suggest you start a new thread.
