Intel and CS2

I am having a problem installing a legit copy of Adobe CS2 on my iMac. The installation seems to run very fast (too fast), but when I go into my applications folder, no adobe apps can be found. I have tried running the installer multiple times and have managed to correctly install bridge and photoshop once, but nothing else. I am sure it is a full version and that it is a mac version. any help would be appreciated.
thank you

Hey,

I'm not sure if this is the answer that you require, but that could be due to the fact that Adobe CS2 isn't universal yet. Now I'm certainly no expert with the tech side of things, but I think Adobe is planning to release the Universal CS2 in 2007.

However, it should be able to run through rosetta shouldn't it? Just really slow...

Is it a full install for CS2 or is it an Upgrade disc to bring CS1 to CS2?
Another guy has an earlier thread with a similar problem and that was the issue, his disk was only an Upgrade. He spoke with tech support and he said Adobe said they could not give him support at this time because it was a non-supported platform, as far as they are concerned CS2 doesn't run on Intel Macs!
There is an installer called Pacifist that I have used to install software on my Intel Mac. It has a fully operational demo. You might see if it can help you install if you have a full install disk.
Here is the link;

For what it's worth, here is my standard advice for removing apps (yes I admit I save it and cut and paste to offer it when necessary!)
One of the easiest ways to remove things that you have installed is to write the name of the program in the search box in the upper right corner of a Finder window. What will appear in the window is a list of applications, files, docs, etc with that name. If you highlight an item in the list, by clicking on it once, at the bottom of the window you will see the filepath of where it is located. Use this filepath to determine if it is associated with the Application you want to remove or just an occurrence of the name in a doc or pdf, etc associated with another application. If you determine it is associated with the App you want to remove press Command + Delete and it will be moved to the trash.
Based on what type of app you are trying to remove there can be assorted files associated with the App. These are usually in the main OS Library or your User Library and are usually located in folders called Application Support, Internet Plugins, Preferences or even a folder with the name of the App. If the App is controlled from System Preferences it may have a file in a folder called PreferencePanes. Sometimes all the associated files do not use the name of the App, but use the Brand Name of the manufacturer, for example Microsoft, Apple, or Adobe. Just to be sure I locate all of the associated files I always run both the name of the App and the Brand Name.
Occasionally, associated files cannot be deleted by emptying the trash until you Log Out of your User Account and then Log In. Rarely, you may need to Restart to delete the item by emptying the Trash.
This is the method that I use to remove troublesome or unwanted software. I also retain install logs if an installer program creates one while installing an App. This usually contains a complete list of all the files installed and may even include the filepath. I also hang on to any uninstallers that occasionally come with an App. I keep these logs and uninstallers at least until I have determined whether I intend to keep the App.
There is also an app called AppZapper that does a good job.

pacifist has not proven helpful, unless i'm doing something wrong? i have talked to both apple and adobe tech "support" and both claimed that their policy was not to help with adobe installation on intel imacs. it was a joke really. the adobe clown had never even heard of rosetta and told me that it wouldnt be able to run on my mac. it's really sad when the consumer who is supposed to be "support"ed is doing the "support"ing.

anyways, maybe you guys who have installed it could help me out by telling me the step-by-step process you went through when installing and maybe we can figure out where or if i deviated from it.

Same problem when I called Apple, I had to ask for a level 2 tech right away since the first person had no idea what I was talking about when I said I wanted to uninstall the recent 2006-003 update and her accent was very difficult to understand since I have a slight hearing problem.

Anyways, I am new to Mac computers, I am a long time Windows and Unix Admin, and multiple flavors of Linux for certain services. We were told we had to buy these Imac machines because we were bought out and the new company said we had to use macs, because everyon that does printing uses macs, I begged not to get the intels because of having to use Rosetta, but they would not listen, I almost quit over the ordeal since I was basically threatened and told to keep my mouth shut.

Regardless of all that, I am the one working countless overtime to get these Imacs working again. I ran into the problem when I did the 2006-003 security update. I tried an archive install which would not even finish, kept hanging on iweb. So I did an erase install, then installed Indesign CS2, and did not install the version cue, since I was already aware this was a problem. I then started updates one at a time, and tried created a PDF after a restart after each install. I did the quicktime install 7.1 first, worked no problem, and could make PDF's still, I did the 10.4.6 update and rebooted tried to make a pdf with acrobat and system hung. Restart in safe mode and remove the cache from library\caches\ and then reboot and as soon as I open acrobat the system hangs. Everytime I remove the cache I can then reboot normally until I open Acrobat.

I have noticed in my short time with Apple, that when something does not work, all I hear is that "well that isnt our problem, you should call adobe" or whoever the other program is. The plain simple fact, is that adobe is not the only program having problems, apple remote desktop is also having problems, and safari, and others, just search the message boards and you will see, but Apple refuses to resolve the issue, but if you dont install the update, then your system is open to security problems.

The fact that I can not just uninstall a secuirty update is unbeleiveable. The Apple level 2 tech told me that MOST updates including all security updates could not be uninstalled, you either had to archive or erase install the system to go back.

I think the Apple OS is great, but they should test products with their largest vender, Apple before putting out these intel Imacs, or security updates that cause problems. If Windows did this, Man everyone would blame Microsoft right away, but if it is apple, you end up with a apple community that is so defensive they will just say, well its not our fault its the program. Well guess what, a system without any programs is not very useful.

This whole mindset that I get from the other plants that windows crashes and I hear them joke about the blue screen of death and garbage like that is rediculus. I havent seen a blue screen since windows 98, until after the apple update that gave me the blue screen, and all the talk about how insecure the windows machines are. They are only insecure if an admin doesnt do his job. If he allows users to be administrators or doesnt do any updates for 6 months. I have numerous windows machines on this network and they run flawless, no virus, no spyware, no problems. 5 Windows servers, and 25 linux boxes running as thin clients booting to a windows XP remote desktop. I have had to tell people how to restart their computer since they forget and leave them running constantly, of course, I network boot them and restart for needed updates, but they forget how, because XP is solid.

So, sorry for the rant, but basically this is not acceptable for Apple. They need to fix their product and take responsiblity for problems, if they want to gain market shares above what they have, they will run into the same problems as microsoft, and they will be forced to make there machines run with certain required programs.

So, does anyone have a fix for this problem, besides dont use acrobat or dont install updates?

I totally agree.
Apple apologists need to wake up.
This mess with cs2 has forced me over to xp for the first time in my life.
I have been using mac os since the mid 90s. And I was crushed when I tried to run photoshop through emulation on an intel mac.
It is amazingly unstable and very slow. And the problem with the security update it is just retarted. I would advise anybody who has to run cs2 at a pro level to get a copy of xp and make their new mac a windows machine. It is not that bad.
And it will even let you uninstall in an orderly manner.
I hate to admit it - but it seems to do alot of things better than osx.

I have the whole Adobe Suite including Acrobat Pro running on both my MBP and iMac Core Duo. I have installed all updates, and do not have any issues. Except, I had to go through the MBP not booting after the security update, go to my Apple store, leave thinking it was fixed and then finally booting into safe mode and removing Version Cue out of the startup items in the Library.

I removed it out of startup on my iMac before I did the updates, and everything is working great on both.

FYI, I was wondering if the person trying to install CS2 is logged in as administrator when doing the install? Just a thought, that it might be permission issues. Also, I've heard of issues where it is being transferred over from a G4/G5 machine. Had to be a complete new clean install of Adobe to work.

Good luck

Michael
