Hello all, I am joining you here with the same problem. I am relieved to know I am not the only one but extremely frustrated with the lack of support from Apple on their own backyard!

It happened to me last week when my iPhone 4S was having trouble connecting to a remote wifi server. I decided to disable then re-enable it but got stuck with disabled status.

I tried all 'soft' solutions: hard reboots, reset all settings, restore from previous backups, etc, without success so far.

Time to look in the Samsung shop, isn't it?

I've gotta say, after having this same problem for 3 full months about a year ago, I ended up switching to a Samsung Galaxy S4 and haven't looked back. I tried every solution mentioned on this thread (plus several more), talked to Apple "geniuses" (who told me the only way to fix it was to buy a new one... at full price), and eventually got tired of having a fancy, expensive product that wouldn't work. Oh, and AT&T started charging me for using TOO MUCH UNLIMITED DATA because I couldn't connect to a wifi network. Yeah, that's a thing.

After a year, I've had absolutely zero problems with my Galaxy S4 and can do lots more with it than I ever could with my iPhone. Not to mention I can actually see what's happening on it because the screen is bigger than an ferret's emery board.

Apple is like the Comcast of the tech world - overemphasis on the glossy/stylie/luxuriousness of their products/services, total underemphasis on product quality and customer service. No thanks on both counts.

Started having this problem in the beginning of May, 2014 (2 month ago).

Tried:

1. Network reset

2. Hard reset

3. Updated iOS to 7.1.1

but nothing works... Wifi is still greyed out on my IPhone 4S.

I'm really VERY dissapointed, Apple - why are you doing this with your customers?

Just tried steps 1 - 3 and wifi is still greyed out.

Also, checked software version as per item 4 - I'm running the latest iOS 7.1.1

Will now try to "contact Apple" but I really don't expect anything helpful there

i am also having the same problem , i upgrade to Ios 8.2 but the issue is still the same ...

i got the new iphone 4s two times in last two weeks , but both the phone getting the same issue... wifi is grayed out and they both are new phone sent by apple , is there any breakthrough someone got , then please let me know what is going on , its taking my Data like anything.. as has to run Data plan every time..

GOOD NEWS , Issue RESOLVED

Just want to let you know ,that my Wifi has turn back on , let me tell you the process which worked !!

1) i clean my phone so there wont be any moisture on my phone

2) kept it in a Dry Zip lock bag

3) Kept in a Freezer for 20 min

4) took it out then settle it for 5 min on room temperature

5) switch on the phone 🙂 and here we go , your wifi is working !!

it was temporary , it became grayed out again 😟... so its a problem of the device which is heating up some chip and because of it , its get grayed out

i got new iphone yesterday , so no point of miss handling or something else ..so its a product fault

You may have to do a Reset All Settings.

completely discharge the battery of your mobile. keep it that way for about 10-15 minutes just be sure that battery is dead. than recharge your mobile...

Me too. Yesterday my iphone 4s disable open the wifi option . It greyed out. I have tried all way I can think of, but it didn't work. Even I upgraded to ios6.1.3. It just didn't work at all.
