Is Apple losing its mojo? I just want to delete the emails on the ipad/iphone, not necessarily at Gmail. None of these methods work, and Apple better get back to its roots. The previous versions of ios was very manageable regarding emails. Now this disaster, that precludes me putting in more music or whatever into the device.

This is very helpful. I have additional questions. Do you know if the messages have to be deleted completely to be removed from using iPhone memory? Or can they simply be moved to a personal folder to free up iPhone memory?

Also, must I move/delete all or none of the messages, or is there a way to move all before a certain date?

Thanks.

Thanks all. That was helpful. I ended up trying it and I think managed to move all of my Gmail mail into a personal folder. I saw an HTML button on the bottom that said "Move All." But then I kept receiving an error message that Gmail wasn't working because something was incorrect in my settings like my password (I checked & re-checked that I had everything right).

Finally, I just deleted my whole Gmail account & set it up again. I backed up my iPhone 1st but fortunately didn't need that.

It was the best fix in the end because after all the hours of individual email deleting, email deleting & moving around on my PC Gmail, & this crazy iPhone technique, my Gmail & all it's data (calendar mainly) seems in tact & I managed to reduce my email memory to around 700mb from 1.2gb.
