iPhoto library won't show in Screensaver

I've been using OSX for years and have always had my Screensaver set to show photos from my iPhoto library. This has been working flawlessly for years across many iterations of the Operating System, but a few days ago it stopped and instead my Screensaver started showing photos from a National Geographic album.

I've tried everything I can think of to get it to show my iPhoto Library photos again but no matter what I do the iPhoto option doesn't show up in the list of sources within the Screensaver preference pane.

If I go to the Desktop tab then iPhoto is there and I can select events, photos or any number of individual albums from iPhoto to display as my desktop picture but once I go to the Screen Saver tab the only options I get are National Geographic, Serial, Cosmos and Nature Patterns. This is very frsutrating as it has been working perfectly up until a few days ago. How do I get my iPhoto photos to show up in my screensaver?

OS 10.8.2

Thanks,

Alan.

Being able to have pics in iPhoto become my screensaver is one of the reasons I like my Mac, or rather was, until about a year ago. I experienced the same problem, no screensaver from iPhoto pics. So I updated to iPhoto 11 and the problem went away—for a couple of months. I'm not sure if I updated to Mountain Lion before or after the iPhoto update, but the bottom line is that one of the reasons for liking my Mac is gone. If you search the forums you will find that this problem has been around for a long time. My guess is that it's a small number of iPhoto users who are having the problem, so Apple hasn't bothered to fix it. So after about 23 years of a happy relationship with Apple computers....

PattieLennoah,

I've had the same problem with my screen saver as described since I uploaded OS X Yosemite. I DID have iPhoto as a selection for screen saver. My iPhoto pictures showed up as a screen saver until I shut down. The next time I turned on my MacBook, the National Geo pictures were used for the screen saver again!? (No matter how many times I changed them back to iPhoto)

I tried your work-around, (since the iPhoto upgrade taking 6 hours seemed like a painful process!) It worked beautifully! In fact, now I can pick pictures from my iPhoto at my leisure and place them in my Screensaver Desktop Folder. Now I don't have ridiculas pictures of God-knows-what-I-was-thinking-when-I-took-them shots in my entire iPhoto library, and my screen saver shows only the pictures that I really appreciate.

Thank you PattiLennoh!!
