A2DP audio profile

Does anyone know if the Apple bluetooth stack supports A2DP for stereo bluetooth audio devices, as I am planning to purchase Plantronics Pulsar™ 590A Bluetooth® Headset?

I want to buy the DS970. Glad I read your post. Was going to purchase online tonight. On hold at this point. I don't care as much about the music (stereo) at this point. Would be happy is that can work out later when Mac gives support for A2DP if its just a matter of downloading an upgrade when its available. My main concern is with using for Skype. Have you been able to make this work for that capability?

SWEET!!! I was just thinking of buying the BT620s, but I when I saw the A2DP and AVRCP warnings, I thought it might be wise to see if anyone else had tried them yet. Glad I checked. I hope 10.5 is due out soon... REALLY soon. I want to get those headphones but I wont do so until I know they work. Anyone out there with the BT620s and a Leopard preview that give us some idea as to whether or not they work? Thanks!

I suspect his statement to "install bootcamp" was meant to be a jab at Apple and the lack of A2DP support in OS X. Dump OS X and switch to Win XP in other words. Personally, I'm just gonna wait. I'm sure 10.5 will be released at or before MWSF. I just wish someone here with the prerelease could give us a definitive answer as to whether or not the BT620s will work.

I am new to bluetooth headsets, do not own one yet, and am contemplating to get a 590A (for home use with the Mac and my Blackberry 7100i), and some other "single ear" headset for when I am driving.

I do not know gobbs about A2DP, but one thing I would like to do is use the bluetooth microphone as a mic in iTunes, and as I understand it you need to tick off "thru" in Audio Midi utility, and the H500 (one bluetooth single ear I am thinking about) does not support this.

Does anyone know if the 590A support this?

How well does the 590A work with a Mac and/or 7100i?

Does anyone know what single/dual ear headsets work as a microphone for iTunes?

I have the Plantronics 590A's with a Bluetake BT007SX dongle on my G4 digital Audio. They seem to work fine at least for me. The sound is better when used with the dongle that came with the head set, but I wanted to use the headset for Skype and Ichat. They do work with them. I understand that the remote control feature will be supported in 10.5.

I am not familiar with the "Bluetake BT007SX dongle", but my PowerBook has a bluetooth adapter built in, and that is what compatibility I am looking for.

It is good to hear that it works with Skype and iChat, but do you know if it will work with the likes of EchoLink at all, or would you be willing to test it out?

Out of curiosity, what is the "remote control option"?

The BlueTake BT007SX and BT009SX support the A2DP and The AVRCP (Audio/Vidio Remote Control Protocol and will work with Mac's. My G4 does not have builtin bluethooth. The Plantronics 590A work in OSx 10.4.8 but do not have stereo. I have to use the supplied headphone jack dongle for that. (I wasn't very clear on that before).

As far as echolink is concerned I don't have a ham license nor does your link say anything about Mac Software.

Yes, correct, however MacOS at this time (as far as I am told) does not support A2DP.

I am sorry to here about the lack of bluetooth support, as it was my understanding all PowerBooks had it.

So then, you are saying that MacOS does not support stereo headphone use via bluetooth with a 590A, or it does not do that with any bluetooth headset?

While I have been a Ham for years, I was of the notion that EchoLink could be used by non-hams if you did not use it to assert communications on a ham repeater, but were going user to user it was okay. Maybe not...

They did use to have a link up for the Mac version, sorry if it was removed, I hadn't noticed that. I'll see if I can find the link later.

Although, getting a ham license (Technician Class, entry level license) is very easy with some study guides from the ARRL.ORG website (end of Ham advert).

That seems to be the case the A2DP is what will give me Stereo on my Stereo Headphones, probably other things two.

The AVRCP will let me use the other buttons on my headpones to pause/play, Skip and adjust the volume.>

I don't know about powerbooks but my desktop G4 Digital Audio does not.

I don't believe that stereo is supported at this time for any Headset. Everything that I have read leads me to believe that A2DP and AVRCP will be implemented in 10.5. Actualy Windows XP doesn't support it natively, most bluetooth hardware comes with drivers for XP to make them work. (this is something that I have read on the web forums about the subject.)

Hi there,

you wrote in July last year, that you use a Jabra BT620s with bad sound quality.
However you obviously managed to use it.

How did you do that?
I bought such a headset previously and I can pair it to my computer (MacBook Pro, 2 GHz) allright,
but cannot make it work neither with Skype nor iTunes.

Could you please give me a hint, how you made it work?

Kind regards,
Thorsten.
