iTunes Match error on some songs

Recently (within the past 4 weeks or so) I have had issues getting iTunes Match to upload/match about 10-20% of the songs I've added to iTunes. My issue is similar to that desribed in this thread (I'm getting the little cloud with the exclamation point next to the troublesome songs), except all the songs in my iTunes library are in Apple lossless format (ripped from CDs), and so as a solution I tried to convert them to AIFF format and then back to Apple lossless. This, however, is not working.

What's going on here? Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions? Thanks.

I had been having the same problems as everyone else and after reading all the complaints in all the discussions and trying every possible solution I have been able to get past this. I have an iMac, Charter cable modem (30Mbps down and 4 Mbps up) and an Airport Extreme. I determined that my problem, like others, was isolated to my home network (not songs). Found this out by setting my iPad (with Verizon Data Plan) up as a personal Hot Spot and connecting the iMac to it wirelessly. Suddenly all songs in "Waiting" status began to upload, at least until my data plan was exhausted (About 250 songs), so I knew this was a networking problem. I in no way profess to be any kind of a network guru but I researched everything possible anyway. Apple routers do not offer QoS settings. However, Apple has a piece of software for download that developers use for testing called "Network Line Conditioner". Can't remember where I found it off hand, but figured it was a safe product to try since it was an Apple product and not some third party software. Initially I had no luck modifying the direct LAN connection to the router so I disconnected the LAN cable from the iMac. I then turned on the Mac's Wi-Fi and connected to my home network. After trying several of the pre-set options in the program, I was able to find one that worked and I slowed down my Upload speed and made a 1% allowance for dropped packets (My custom setting, I'm not sure I even know what dropped packets are). Don't know what this fixed or what the problem really was but my songs in "Waiting" now upload without problems or failures or restarting. The (GUI) program is very easy to use and simple to turn "On" and "Off". When "On" it resides up top near the "Signal Strength" indicator and is selectable with a "Right Click". I can't promise that this will work for any or all but I wanted to share my success. Maybe others can elaborate on my lack of "Network Knowledge" and explain this a little better. Good luck to all!

Finally, some success! Unfortunately I'm having trouble finding the Network Line Conditioner. I suspect some searching is in order.

In the mean time—have you tried your Mac connected directly to your cable modem, rather than Airport Extreme? It'd be good to isolate the problem to Charter's network (which I am, unfortunately, also on) or the router.

I found the Network Line Conditioner, but have not duplicated kahuna's settings.

To get the conditioner...

  • go to developer.apple.com/downloads
  • login with Apple ID, then go through the process of "registering" as a developer
  • search for "Hardware IO Tools for Xcode" and download
  • Network Line Conditioneris included on that disk image

Kahuna, can you clarify exactly what settings you used? Is it what is listed in the second image you posted? (You said 1% allowance for dropped packets, but the image says 10% - was that a typo?) Thanks.

tridentinecanon,

Remember, I disconnected the direct connect LAN wire to the router and forced the iMac to use Wi-Fi. The settings above are just an online picture. Below are the settings that I used.

Wi-Fi Average Case 2

Download Bandwidth: 40mbps (Or whatever u have) Download Bandwidth: 3mbps (Or Less)

Packets Dropped: 0% Packets Dropped 1%

Delay 1MS Delay 1MS

Try these and or modify as needed. Good luck. It still works 100% with no errors for me!

It has been reported to Apple engeneers.

I spend 2 hours with a senior person but he could not find a solution or figure out the what was causing the problem.

I had to run one of their debug program and send them the results for analysis. At the present time another level of experts are trying to figure out what is happening.

I will keep you updated.

I tried these settings but didn't have any luck; however I was using an Ethernet connection rather than WiFi. I'll try it again with WiFi.

I have noticed over the past couple of days that a few Lossless tracks that have been successfully uploaded since the problem started. At least some of them worked on the first try. I'm not sure if some of them previously were stuck at "waiting" and then uploaded, or if they had uploaded on the first attempt and I just hadn't noticed.

Regardless, most of the tracks I've had problems with are still "waiting".

I also have this problem.

(Windows 8-64, iTunes 11.0.2.26)

So far I've only noticed it with one file. A new album in ALAC format, actually. Only one track is broken.

All the other tracks were matched or uploaded just fine.

I've tried deleting the track, deleting and hiding from iCloud, then readding it, but it always shows a hollow iCloud icon and Waiting.

I have had this happen before my billing cycle refresh; I had an issue with billing and after I took care of it I had to reactivate iTunes Match, so it kind of started the whole matching process again, but this didn't fix it!

From my two calls to support I've learned:

At least their first level support doesn't know what iTunes Match is.

  1. The first time, I was told that it would only handle songs that were in Apple's "master database".
  2. The second time, I was told that it only worked for songs purchased from iTunes

The other thing that drives me crazy, is they ask you for a phone number, in case they get disconnected, and then when you get disconnected, you never get a phone call back!

I had to go to the product page and read the description to these people.

One thing this latest support guy had me do is to turn off iTunes Match, deauthorize the computer, reauthorize the computer, turn on iTunes Match. While the songs didn't upload, it did cause them to go from "Waiting" to "Error".

I'm running on Windows 7 x64 using the iTunes 11.0.2.25 (64-bit). My PC is hardwired into a switch, which connects to a gigabit switch which connects to a WRT54GL, which is my gateway, DHCP server, and wireless access point.

I've tried different ISP's, different DNS servers. I even set up another PC with a fresh installation of Windows and iTunes, only to experience the same issue. The only thing I have not tried is wireless. I'm really not all that keen on doing so. I'm hooked up to a gigabit network for a reason, and moving to 54Mbps theoretical throughput is not going to work.
