iTunes 11 doesn't only show purchased songs. Help!!!

Hello everyone!

I opened up iTunes today and it only shows purchased songs and movies that I have in the cloud. It doesn't show songs or movies that I have imported, such as from CD's. Also, all of my playlists are gone! I had tons of songs and movies that have now disappeared!

What's funny though is that iTunes was fine yesterday and all of my songs and movies where there. Also, everything is the same in the iTunes media folder and under prefrences, iTunes is still pointed to that folder.

I have iTunes 11.0.2 and Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.

Help!

Edit: I also noticed that the available songs and movies have a cloud in the corner and whenever I go to play it, it appears has if it's downloading from the cloud.

Check your recycling bin for the iTunes library files. Are they there? Then you seem to have the same strange new problem as a number of us--check the 3 or 4 threads near the top of the forum at the moment.

I hope someone can figure out why this is happening all of a sudden. No recent iTunes update, and the fact that it's suddenly happened to a number of us seems to rule out obvious user error.

Exactly what happened to me. Under preferences/advanced, iTunes is still pointed toward the iTunes media folder and all of my songs are there, so they didn't get deleted.

I tried loading the last iTunes library (which is from November 2012) and all of my songs till that point go back, but I'd still have to re-import all the songs since then. I just wish it would go back to the way it was two days ago! I did absolutely nothing for this to happen!

Hey folks,

I think this got solved (at least it did for me) in one of the parallel threads on the same subject a few days ago. I just took one of the temp library files in my root iTunes media folder and renamed it to replace the (apparently corrupt?) library that had been giving me trouble. Everything was restored and days later it's still stable.

field studies, you are a genius!!! This fixed it!!!

A detailed tutorial:

  1. Go to the iTunes folder (For me, it's Libraries/Music/iTunes
  2. Delete the file "iTunes Library.itl" (You could also just put it in a backup folder in case this doesn't work for you)
  3. Rename "iT 1.tmp" to "iTunes Library.itl". Even though you change the extension, it still works.
  4. Open up iTunes and you should be back to normal! To be sure, do a search for the last thing you imported.

Thanks to field studies for finding the solution!!!
