Iphone 5 will not charge after water damage. Tried various solutions.

I would bet it is probably the charging circuit in the phone too.

Any Part can be replaced - but can it be replaced by the phone owner is the question?

1st you would need a new part. Even if you could identify the part, it is likely a specialized Apple part - if not special in design it may be a standard off the shelf with a special Apple part number. Companies often have parts marked with an internal part number. If it is a special design you will be out of luck getting a new part. If you can idendify the part as an off the shelf part then obtaining one would be the next hurdle. You could always try ebay or somewhere to buy a broken phone cheap just for parts. You will need the Exact same phone, model and revision, and with the same revision circuit board to be sure of part compatibility.

Finally you would need the skill and a microscope and specialized solder removal and soldering equipment to deal with a small outline surface mount part.

out of warranty repair is $229 i believe, not a pittance but not a small fortune either. i would be glad to pay that v. full price of phone.

Then maybe you should have been a bit more careful with it.

Any attempt to open iPhone 5 will void the warranty and any Apple assistance on that iPhone

So If I read your OP correctly you may have already voided the warranty and access to out

of warranty service

Certain damage is ineligible for out-of-warranty service, including catastrophic damage, such as the device separating into multiple pieces, and inoperability caused by unauthorized modifications. However, an iPhone that has failed due to contact with liquid may be eligible for out-of-warranty service.

Water damage voided the warranty. Opening the phone forfeited your right to an out of warranty replacement.

Apple does not sell parts, including batteries, for iPhones. There are no legitimate sources for iPhone parts.

Since you opened it and changed the battery, Apple won't touch it. You will have to buy a new phone at full retail if you still want an iPhone.

Is their an indicator to show the phone has been opened?

Yes. There are tamper indicators inside the phone.

People should have the right to change their battery or open their phone if they want instead of being forced to make a genius bar appointment for any type of service (apple stores are few and far between where i live).

You do have that right. But if you choose to exercise it, you forfeit your right to an out of warranty replacement.

Note: I took it to a repair shop re dock connector change. They changed it and it wouldnt work so they replaced old one and said apple wouldnt have a problem fixing it on the out of warrenty repair service.

They lied to you.

If the service is void i certainly will not be buying another iphone. I guess this is how apple make their money.

Go ahead. Try the same thing with another vendor... let us know how that works for you.

Take it to the Apple store and tell them it doesn't work - true.

The liquid indicators changed color?? Tell then it got wet.

If the repair shop you went to was an Apple authorized shop that will not void any warranty.

Don't give tem a reason to deny coverage. Let them take it in and look at it.

Let them tell you if they will replace or repair it.

Depending of the condition of the device, if you messed it up when you opened it,

and the store and service tech who works on it ... your results may vary.

Hey yiddonick, I stumbled upon this old post while figuring out what to do with my iPhone 4s. I literally have the SAME exact problem as you (replaced everything you did, etc.). You wound up having to get a new phone didn't you? I'm about ready to give up on but feel better knowing I did absolutely everything I could to get it back.

This is to those who find their IPhone won't charge and sound is off after slight cobract with liquid/water. This has happened to me several times with the same phone. You will be able to charge your phone again a few hours after it stops working due to the water contact. Getting sound back usually takes longe. It is a good idea to try to dry the charger hole as good as you can to avoid waiting longer for everything to work properly again.

There is no Apple documentation that supports that allegation. You'd be better off taking it to an Apple Store and learning the situation first hand.
