iPhoto books from pdf only?

My iPhoto library is apparently corrupt 😢 so I've been unable to upgrade from 8.1.2. I have numerous books that took WEEKS each to create. I have the .pdf files for these books that iPhoto generates. Is there ANY way I can order the books from Apple with just the .pdf files? I saw a post from 2007 describing a workaround that involves saving the iPhoto Library under another name, deleting all pictures that aren't necessary for the book, then saving that Library for use only when ordering the book. I'm hoping Apple has come up with another way since 2007.

Thanks! 🙂

I rebuilt the library using the option you suggest. That didn't help.

I don't understand why the "reclaim orphaned pictures" finds so many pictures when they already show up just fine in my Event and book.

I am ready to give up and just recreate the books in iPhoto '11. I have saved a pdf of the book and I will copy all the "adjust" settings so I can recreate all my edits. Copying all the edits and recreating the books will take DAYS! Until I get this done, the libraries will work with iPhoto '09.

How can I upgrade to iPhoto '11, yet preserve iPhoto '09? for use with these libraries? I did save a copy of '09 on my external drive and a DVD.

Here's how I did:

1 - move your iPhoto 8 (09) application to a folder in the Applications folder and reanme it "iPhoto 8".

2 - rename your iPhoto 8 library to "V8 iPhoto Librar"y.

3 - install iPhoto 9 (11).

4 - when you want to launch the V8 library double click on the iPhoto 8 application with the Option key held down and select the V8 library in the window that comes up.

5 - when you want to switch back to the V9 library double click on the V9 application and select the V9 library in the window that comes up. If you forget you'll get a warning that 1 - the library can't be opened with this version of iPhoto or 2 - the library needs to be upgraded. In that case quit and start again with the Option key held down.

Note: I'd check to make sure the themes that you are using in the iPhoto 8 books are available in iPhoto 9. Otherwise you'll have to change themes.

This was very helpful. Thanks!

Regarding themes... In your tutorial on archiving books you say to save the Themes folder from the Application Support folder. Then, "After upgrading to iPhoto 11 copy the Themes folder that you had saved earlier into your User/Library/Applications Support/iPhoto folder."

Will that REPLACE the entire existing Themes folder or simply add old themes that are not in the iPhoto 9 (11) Themes folder?

Thanks

Don't replace the themes folder that iPhoto 9 (11) installs.

After installling the new iPhoto check both the HD/Library and your User/Librarhy to see where it installed the themes. As I recall it installed the themes in the HD/Library location. If that's what you find then put the Themes folder from iPhoto 8 (09) back where you found it originally, the User/Library/..... Then launch iPhoto 8 and check the themes. It's been so long since I've written that tutorial I forgot some of the details. 😟 Getting old.
