iOS 6.1.3 battery drainage

Last night I updated my iPhone 4S to a iOS 6.1.3 and now it drains my battery in extremely fast manner. As I started signing in to write this question from my iPhone I already lost 13% of my battery. I never had a problem with a battery and ive been using iphones since the first one. i miss my morning class because of it because my alarm clock didn't because my phone was dead. Please fix it or have no choice but buy Samsung GS4

I agree with ur comment because I had 5 apple devices working great with previous iOS running all day without charging and iPad lasting few days without charging now after I updated all of them all of my batteries r draining quickly.the only one not draining is the one that I didn't update and don't plan on until this glitch is fixed.

As to how fast, well I charged my iPad at 11am 100% now it's at 67% 3hrs later without using it and all apps closed, no GPS on, brightness low, notifications off and same in Other devices.

Frustrating when ur iPhone is needed 4 every day use and battery last less then half what it used to.I have done everything I have been told to do by troubleshoot & apple.but I went online and it turns out there is a problem with new update several other people r having exact problems when they updated iOS 6.1.3 even some have issues with their wifi.

Not sure the amount, if it only effects certain phones etc.but I do know that all my iOS devices ink idling my friends worked fine after updates battery drains quick as water :( apple had same problem with iOS 5 so I'm sure if it is a iOS problem they will fix it soon. The have never le me down b4.

Again I'm not a expert or know quantities but there r users complaining of same problems including my self & my friends & family that have updated to new iOS...

I own a charter fishing / whale watching business here in Hawaii. With no dockside power available at some moorings we also use solar charging systems. The key thing to keeping your batteries in top shape is to invest in a high quality 3 stage charge regulator. All the solar power output has to be converted to properly charge the specific type of batteries your using. You need a 3 stage recharge cycle to get the longest life / best performance out of your batteries. This is basically Bulk charging (high current until specific voltage reached), equalizing cycle (max charge voltage reached > current drops until can't absorb more and then a float charge which maintains a predetermined voltage of the charged battery to avoid capacity loss. Actual "trickle" charging is really not good for long term storage as is applies a constant voltage and constant low current to maintain charge levels while a 'true' Float charge system (like the iPhone) lets the battery lose capacity until a specific level is reached and the boosts it back up to full charge (no constant current). Ideally you want a regulator that is adjustable and can be set to the specific battery(s) manufacturers specs for all three stages.

This is nearly identical to the way the iPhone charge cycle works via firmware which is designed specifically for the iPhone battery. Since Apple never releases the specific charging specs on their batteries there is no way a third party can 'improve' the charging. Also there would be major UL/CSA/CE approval issues if the charging was adjustable via third party apps or users.

You´re right. I had shut down all apps and turned on airplane mode. So in my eyes it couldn´t have been an app trying to reconnect or anything else. Fyi this wan´t an experiment =) this was the only way that I could use the alarm clock. Otherwise my battery would have been down.

Another interesting fact is when I look up the time my iPhone was in use right now (Settings--> General--> USage) the time of stand by and usage are nearly identic. By the way I took my Phone off the charger 3 hours ago. The settings show: Standby: 3hours; usage 2hours 40 minutes). By the way the most time i didn´t use my phone...(akku level 85%)

--> I don´t really remember the usual state, didn´t I have to sum up these both times to get the total use of my iPhone with one full charge?

This morning I took a view after having the iPhone the whole night through in airplane mode and the same effect. I can´t exactly tell the hours of usage (ca. 12 hours) but the both times didn´t differ more than 1hour.

So far--> something in the backgrund is runnig down my battery an i can´t focus...

A friend of mine has another iphone 4 i can use by the end of the week, till this problem is fixed.

hope it will be soon...

All I know something is wrong with this update and my proof is that all my devices with iOS that I updated have same issue yet the one that has ios6.1.2 does not. Friends & family that updated have the same problem & online some people r complaining of wifi issues as well with iPhones all gens except for iPhone5, iPod touch & iPad.

IDK how a update can affect a phone or if a bug got through or not,if compatible with certain devices or apps etc.if it was not tested or only tested for iPhone 5,I'm no expert, nor quick to judge I Love Apple, but it's annoying when all ur devices r apple & have done all & still same problem :( not sure how many people its actually affecting, how many have actually noticed but the glitch exist.

As you can see from the pix, the battery life has been declining with every new 6.1.* update.

I'm on my fifth iPhone 4S. The latest is brand new, and I had it for only 3 weeks.

It's important to mention that with iOS 6.0.* the battery would last up to 48 hours on a standby and 8 hours of usage (browsing, e-mailing, texting, facebook, Instagram, Safari).

I'm doing the same amount of browsing, texting, using the same apps I did back in October when I got my very first iPhone 4S.

One thing that I've noticed, after updating to iOS 6.1.3, is that after letting the battery completely drain and fully charging it about 3 times, and turning the FaceTime off, the battery life did improve a bit, but it's still losing 1% or more of its power on a standby.

Would love to have a program that would give me a pretty good picture of the iPhone usage time, and pinpoint the programs and applications that are affecting the battery life.

Just to make us all feel better... sort of. Here my helpful hubby looked up a MacWorld article

on 4S Battery drainage...

THIS IS FROM OCT 2011 folks has nothing whatsoever to do with 6.1!!

Note he used original version of App I rec. SYS ACTIVITY Manager .. It does tell you exactly which programs are running... not that you can do anything about it!.

The free up FREE memory feature which DOES do something (it turns off programs that should be off).

As for battery charge... I agree w him, thought more knowledgeable would have to tell us. ..Should we all be doing full drains and recharges 3 times before even using phone?!

FOLKS ...there is a way you can stop 'running' programs from draining your batteries.

Remember that area below home screen that shows 'last 4 run programs?

You get there by double clicking home button. If you press on an icon, they wiggle

and a little RED - circle comes up. Press the RED - and ICON /program is turned off.

..TURN THEM ALL OFF! It wont affect your reuse of any app direct from home screen.

Even my SYS ACTIVITY montor said I had App Store and fb running when I hadn't used them

in hours. By turning them off with this HOME Button they are now OFF OFF and in fact were

removed from my 'running applications' list on SYS ACTIVITY.( I tested by turning CAMERA on

then off.) Sure enough it showed up in 'running applications'.. and popped up in the bottom list.

Pushing its RED button..removed it from running apps list!

Now I know we shouldn't have to do this ..but no matter. It does work. Keep that screen cleared!

I did that and have had NO BATT drain for over an hour!.
