iOS 6.1.3 battery drainage

I have the same issue with IOS 6.1.3 battery drainage... Apple please do something!!! experienced this problem only after the update.. I should have stayed with IOS 6.0.2..

I think there's more to it than that see my experience below:

I've spent a lot of time on this, so will try and summarise.

I have an old (3yr-ish) iphone 4. Although the battery was well used, prior to the 6.1.2 update it would last from 7am to midnight with no problem. Usage was calls, text, hotmail and Words with Friends, not much else.

Immediately after the 6.1.2 update , the battery started to drain very quickly, it would last maybe 4-6 hours. Nothing else had been changed on the phone.

I followed all advice I could find on the net, and ended up restoring as a new device, installed no Apps and didn't configure hotmail. Still had the same problem, although it might last an hour longer..

Waited a few weeks and installed 6.1.3. Same problem.

Spent two days on the phone with a very helpful lady from Apple California to try and resolve.

Basically, I reinstalled the phone as a new device and monitored.

Couldn't improve the situation.

Went to apple store. They checked it out and said something strange was happenin, with the battery readings on their diagnosis software, some sort of mismatch that might be resolved with a firmware upgrade. ( sorry, I can't remember exactly what it was!). Firmware upgraded, same problem.

Advised to get a new battery.

New battery installed and things have improved, my battery now lasts from 7am till about 7pm. I have no apps installed and only have light call, text and hotmail usage.

I am using it less than before the update, I have a new battery and still have less battery life.

I have another friend who has experienced battery drain and a couple who haven't (iphone 4 and 4Ss)

My conclusion is this:

My original battery was not as good as it used to be.

A new battery is much better.

IOS update 6.1.x is probably much more battery Hungry than previous versions.

It appears to absolutely hammer a specific group of iphone models but not others, maybe a certain batch/chipset/firmware version or mix of the three.

If this doesn't affect you it doesn't mean there isn't a real problem, it is very frustrating and disappointing.

I guess at some point apple will sort it out, when they do, I might buy an iphone 5, otherwise, I feel like I'm being pressured into it!!! :)

Ive tried all of these and nothing seems to be working for me, my last resort was to restore my iphone 4s and set it up as a new phone and now its working fine, still have 50% for 8 hours of use (facebook, youtube etc,,) and no longer warmin up..

Also having battery issues with 6.1.3.

It's been a several hours sinch the charge and battery already on 49%!

Used GPS for 20 minutes, 10 web serfing and that's it.

Almost every 3G using apps are turned off, no ICLOUD use.

Maybe the problem is specifically when using 3G?

Great phone but the battery issue is ruining all the experience 😟

Hope Apple will release a fix soon.

3G actually uses much less power than '4G' for talking and cellular data (except for 3G taking longer to download data). This applies only when you turn off 'enable LTE', you can leave celluer data on, and of course you need to be connected to a true 3G signal which is becoming harder to find in big markets (Note that the '4G' / LTE descriptions I use may vary by cellular carriers, I am on AT&T). I use 3G when I am on remote overnight hikes and can easily get over 11 hrs of talk time, with 4G I'm lucky if I get over 6 hrs.

For those of you that are seeing the battery draining very quickly (with no useage) it would be interesting to know what happens with 'Airplane mode' on? In theory this should disable all RF, Cellular, Wifi, GPS and data input and output from any IOS device. If the battery drains just as quickly while in Airplane mode it would suggest the issue is internal on the device and not anything to do with external wireless I/O communications. This would at least isolate, in part, where the battery drain is coming from

I have the same problem too. Very disgusted since I just recently upgraded from iPhone 4 to iPhone 5. Battery is draining horribly. I have to leave it on a charger all day. It kind of reminds me of the very first Apple iPod which had a battery life of about 4 hours. I tried some of the fix suggestions out there but those blow. So Apple, you need to get busy and FIX this issue.

I have a rel new..January 22 4S ... Use for lots of stuff. No problem till 6.1 I think. First noticed with CALENDARS. So turned off ..

No one seemed to find a way to stop it on 6.1.2 so I upgraded to 6.1.3 and fine for two days then each day it would go down @ over 10% per hour...Just restored again...and now 0% drain after 4 hours. But I know when I use again ...some **** program will stay on and running and drain it.

Why can't we have an ACTIVITY MONITOR on our phones so we can see which APP is draining it?!

Let's hope everyone will be satisfied with the iOS 7 when it is released.

Hi all, I just want to report that my iPhone 5 is experiencing heavy battery drainage after updating to 6.1.3. Even in Airplane mode it still drains 1% every hour without me touching it at all. In normal mode the drain would be even faster 2% every half hour on standby and the phone is warm to touch. In heavy usage the phone gets uncomfortably hot quickly.

Apple, I hope you fix this problem soon as this is the 2nd time I'm experiencing bad battery life on iPhone 5 with the first during the new release of this phone and I had to get the phone changed. iPhone 5 is turning out to be a very bad user experience.

I have the same battery problems since updating to ios 6.1.3 .

I also had the idea that the problems are caused by the phone trying to connect to a network or anything else. Over night I lost about 50%, in airplane mode just round about 20-25% are going off (what is definitly too much in 7hours). By not using my phone every hour 3-5% drop off.

I've tried all the things suggested in this (and other) threads but couldn´t observe a noticable improvement.

As an idea i installed "Systeminfo", an app which shows the memory usage. This showed, that nearly 50% of the memory are in active use (by not running any other app) (ca. 140MB). In comparison to my best friends active memory (same device; iphone 4s 32GB) his active memory usage is in average down to 50MB.

If you aks me it seems to be either a problem with the updating prozess that causes an app getting stuck or with the firmware.

Berle... Yes that is problem. But you want SYS ACTIVITY Manager .. PLUS ..

With it on Memory page (first one) you push recycle button (left) and see your memory freed up right before your eyes! But within minutes even wo using phone it is all tied up doing something again.

It also has a battery recharger part that will perfectly recharge your battery with trickle at end etc. But you

must let phone run down to 10% first and its takes a bit.. haven't used that yet but review are good. This

is very important for battery life I know.

Now any Apple tech with a better program would be able to spot the EXACT programs that are using up the 'Free' Memory.. there I was down to 17%.. hit button and up to 74%! but already down to 65 wn seconds..Something is 'ON and keeps running and draining battery even when not using phone!

I use facebook, safari, and tweetbot a lot.. with 3 twitter accounts ..most suspicious of that.

FYI: No Apps can actually change how iPhone batteries charge. All they do is make you think they are doing something by providing more detailed information, logs, timers, cycles, etc. The battery charging circuits and bulk, stabilizing and trickle charging modes are directly controlled by Apple Firmware and hardware. The charge process cannot be modified or changed except by firmware update. The 10% 'rundown' level you mention is done by the firmware automatically, it uses a higher bulk charge profile (it actually happens when the battery gets below below 20%) and the trickle charging you mention is also done automatically by the firmware. Again; No Apps can change how the battery is charged in any way.

That's interesting. To clairify: You're saying you lost 20-25% battery level overnight in airplane mode without using the phone? Too bad that there isn't a feature like android has that lists power usage by components/ /apps.... I wonder if it's due to some of your social media apps trying to get updates in the backround, were they open during your aiplane mode 'test'? Maybe one of the social apps keeps trying to connect for updates but can't due to airplane mode?

Last night I fully charged my iPhone 5 and decided to leave all my running apps open to see what what would happen to battery levels. The apps were safari (5 pages), stocks, calender, meassages, flipboard, CNN, Bloomberg news, iPhoto, google maps, apple maps, fandango and yelp. I was at 99% after 7 hours of stanby overnight. So mine seems to be back to 'normal' after just turning off Facetime and iCloud docs and data (which were both turned on during the 6.1.3 update).

Thanks for clarification re charging. We have boat and batteries needs trickle etc. But they do GREAT with solar panels.. WELL SYS ACTIVITY does reduce free memory use!

Too bad iPhones dont have solar panel.. I know you can buy hiking cases that do.. but still.

As well... battery on my 4s lasted all day with minimal use and now 3 hours and it's 8% ***!? Also my browser seems to freeze and/or be slow at connecting frequently. I am putting off my purchase of Iphone5 until Apple gets it together on this battery issue. I am getting tired of the ipgrades messing my phone up and not being able to go back to an earlier version!

Apple better do something cause this *****!!!
