Cannot send emails with my iCloud email address in Outlook for Mac 2011 and get error message 5.7.8

On 27th Sept I posted:

Suddenly found unable to send e-mails and they were stacked up in outbox with error code 5.7.8 poping up!

After almost 5 hourse talking to MS & Apple, MS Support pointed me to this 'thread'. I took 'jren49's' advice and changed server to p06-smtp.mail.me.com, full e-mail address and username.

After following this Thread I though I would try again:

1. Changing the user name to 'myname' and not myname@me.com

2. Removed the p06- from the outgoing server address so it reads smtp.mail.me.com

and it worked!

This is very stange as these exact settings did not work on 26 or 27th Sept but they now work on 29th Sept - Whats going on?

This worked for sending mail but now I am not receiving mail. I made no changes to incoming account information. Suggestions?

ok. keep calm! and start ffrom the begining.

Put that crazy p06- prefix on the incoming server adress, you will see it working! don't ask, just try it! 😉

I did the same, added the p06 and it worked great too. Also have Outlook 2010 and a @me.com email address. Like others here, I assume this is just a temporary fix and will stop working at some time as well, but thank you to the poster who solved it!

I sorry Apple this time you suck I have spend hours working on this and YES using the STMP address

p06-smtp.mail.me.com it works again!!! for how long I do know!

AND I demand a reply I have every Apple Product know to man and I have even called my iDog Apple!

Yup this worked immediately! Thanks! It was driving mem crazy!

BTW, this was happening in Entourage as well.

This is a user forum, you will not get a reply from Apple here.

When the dialogue appears asking if you want to re enter your username and password say Yes, enter the first part of your @me email address and leave off the @me.com

I changed my Account settings in Outlook to remove the @Me. All is well.

Well I have 7 email accounts using outlook I remove all accounts and installed @me.com only and used the new p06-smtp.mail.me.com and only had my username like other say and even tried it as default smtp.mail.me.com (out of the box Etc) and it would not work!!

So I have now setup Mac Mail using all the Stationary and Signatures and I love it! it did not seem to have all those features that outlook had last time I had a look! I LOVE IT and now I can be 100% Apple!!! now Apple give me FREE stuff!

Csound1 This was a change from Apple not Microsoft I am experiencing the same frustration

Please can you urgently advise what Apple changed and how to rectify

Nothing changed, the iCloud servers have been at the same settings as they are now since iCloud debuted.

This resolved my issue.
