print option missing --draft

After a recent purchase of a mac mini with Mountain Lion, I find that my print quality options no longer contain "draft." This was an option I frequently used in order to save ink.

I have a Canon MX 712 with all available updates installed. Is there a way I can once again print drafts?

I have a mac mini OSX10.8.2

"About this Mac" says:

2.5 GHz Intel i5

4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Mac mini, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Thank you for providing that information. It shows you are using the AirPrint printer driver, which has a reduced number of features compared to the full driver.

So open Print & Scan and remove the MX712, by selecting it and then pressing the minus button.

Then click the plus button to add again. Now when you see a little window appear showing the MX712, do not select this. Instead, click on Add Printer or Scanner. This will open another window showing some icons at the top - Default, Fax, IP and Windows. With the Default view selected, the MX712 should be visible. Select it and then look at the Use menu. This will select the AirPrint printer. But if you click this and then select MX712 Series and then click Add, this driver will give you back the settings like you had previously.

Thanks so much for this fix…..but I am still having problems having followed through your advice. I'm trying to get a draft print option on a newly purchased Canon Pixar MG5600 printer but when I select (in print and scan box) "Canon MG5600 series" and set use to MG5600 series ie not AirPrint I get the following error message:

"Unable to find an appropriate software on your system after running software update"

I have a mac pro and am using mountain lion OSX 10.8.5

Any help much valued…..

Seems they do not support a non-airprint capability and therefore disallows draft printing option which is frustrating. Any advice?

Not sure who you mean by they, but neither Apple or Canon are doing this. If you can only select the AirPrint driver and not the MG5600 series driver then there is something wrong with your Mac. So if the same message appearing when you try to select the MG5600 driver?
