Q: TV episdodes for purchased seasons have stopped downloading. Check for Available Downloads is broken.

Usually, I have an applescript that runs from the mail client to automatically check for available purchases whenever an email from apple is received stating that new episodes are available to download.

In the last week, this has stopped working, so I have been attempting it manually, but when I go to Store-->Check for Available Downloads... I get the message that All purchases have been downloaded for this AppleID...

I can also click the link in the email that says there are new episodes for my purchased season, but this does not download the new episodes.

I have had this issue this week with updates for 2 different TV seasons.

Obviously, something is broken.

I know that I can click on the store menu, click on the purchased link, click on the tv season, click on the option for not already on this computer, click on the tv season with new episodes, click on the download button for the new episodes to download...... but I don't want to do all of that.

If anyone has a way to restore the functionality of "Check for Available Downloads..." for purchased TV seasons, I would appreciate a response here.

I'm a novice to these discussions, and may still be posting in the wrong area. Dunno. I was able to download a good version (with sound) of Episode 3, Top fo the Lake last night. Here is an email I got from iTunes help:

    Hello Eric,

Greetings from Apple! This is Anjoe, your iTunes Store Advisor for today and I understand that you're having difficulties with the episode you purchased. I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you, Eric.

But don't worry. I got your back and I have good news for you.

I have replaced the 3rd episode with a fresh copy back to your account. Please follow these steps to initiate the download, free of charge:

    1) Make sure you're using the latest version of iTunes. It can be downloaded free of charge from the Apple website:

    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download

Note: Installing the latest version of iTunes will not affect your library or any items in your account that you haven't downloaded.

    2) From the Store menu at the top, choose Check for Available Downloads. You can also click this link to do the same thing:

    https://buy.itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZFinance.woa/wa/checkForPurchases

    3) Enter your account name and password, then click the Check button.

The item(s) should begin downloading and appear in your library.

Is there anything else I can help you with today, Eric?

I wish everything goes well and enjoy the rest of the day.

Should there be any concerns that will arise, Anjoe, your iTunes Store Advisor is just an email away!

    Take care, Eric.

    Sincerely,

    Anjoe

... Also, I received an email that a new episode of Scandal was available. I opened iTunes and clicked on "Check for Available Downloads". That new episode is downloading right now. So this issue seems solved for me. I don't know why the very difficult time with Top of the Lake, though. Perhaps I'll find out next week.

The issue of the check for downloads not working is absolutely working again.  This must have been some kind of server-side issue, but glad it was resolved and I can easily watch my new episodes again.

    yes same here working.

But only for new episodes.   Episodes that came out during the issue never did download without going and grabbing them manually.

yesterday i opened iTunes and all of the stuff that didn't download before started downloading.  Of course I had already grabbed all the shows manually (and watched them) so I didn't need them anymore, but they did finally show up.

awsome, just noticed this is broken again.

none of my episodes released yesterday or today download when I check for available downloads.

Had to go grab them all manually.

Come on apple.  This is very basic functionality that has always worked (as far as I know) till the last few months.

Um... My itunes has ALWAYS automatically downloaded new episode when I open it... but it's not anymore... and the Check for Available Downloads isn't working either.

Even worse, I got an email an hour ago telling me that the latest episodes of Lost Girl and Defiance are available, however... they aren't.  I'm not even seeing them available for manual download.

Or, more specifically... Lost Girl's latest episode is available SD only, and Defiance neither SD or HD is available.

It's still very broken.  Only way I can episodes once they've been announced as available via email from Apple is to go into the store and dowload them manually.   Check for downloads is broken.  Also iTunes now asks for account password before checking - this is new behavior.

Same problem exactly.   Auto downloads not working for a Season's Pass even though I got the usual email saying it was "ready to be downloaded".

Also, if I go to download it manually, it is NOT free, I would have to pay for it.

Seems like a lot of Apple stuff is getting "broken" lately.

    Thanks

While I am not having that problem where I have to pay for it again, I still must manually download it.   Even more annoying is when you report it to iTunes they "fix" your account and so you are forced to download a 2nd copy then delete them.  But, your account ISNT fixed, because next timea season pass episode is available... You have to go through it all over again.

Add another frustrated user to the list. Same exact problem. Does Apple ever check these reports? Seems like a genuine problem here.

Check them HERE? No.  You have to email them to actually report it, this "discussion" site is purely us helping each other.

I had this problem with two episodes (March 2013; April 2013). The first time, I emailed support and the tech reset the download, which worked (I now have two copies of the same TV show). The second time this happened, I emailed support to reset the download again, but found a fix on my own.

**I checked "Purchases" on my iPhone (iTunes app, more, purchases, TV shows, recent episodes) and noticed that I could download the missing episode from iCloud and watch it on my iPhone. I saw all my purchases ever on there ready to be downloaded again.**

Several hours later, I received a response from the tech saying my issue should be resolved (same message as user E V above). I opened iTunes and got the same, "all purchases have been downloaded" message-- i.e., the tech's fix did not work.

**However, I was able to transfer purchases from phone to my computer (iTunes program, file, devices, transfer purchases...), which worked and I can now watch the episode on my computer too.**

Just another "me too" post. The same problem as a few weeks ago started again on Sunday for me. Nothing has downloaded via "Check for Available Downloads" since then. Back to getting the shows manually. Time to write Apple again....
