How to remove books from iCloud permanently ?

This solution doesn't help me. I am using up all my cloud space with old books that I am not going to reread. I want to be able to delete some of them so that I am no using up all my cloud storage on these books. I also got some that I never liked and didn't feel I wanted to waste my time on, but never found a way to return, so I wasted my money and now my storage on something I don't want. There needs to be a solution.

I have another reason to needing books completely removed from an iPad, iCloud, iTunes then has been discussed thus far. I am in the Technology Dept of an independant school where we have a 1-to-1 program using iPads. A middle school student has somehow (?) downloaded a very inappropiate book in their parents opinion. Remember that kids will e kids and sometimes do rather stupid mistakes. The parents wnat/need these books completely erased from thier childs accounts. This might be able to remove the child's ability to re-doenload such materials or might not want some bit of incrimnating paper trail to this childs indecretions.

So to Gail and others here. There are legitimate reasons to want to expunge records from the mighty apple's computers. It seems rather typical of Apple and MAc users to think that 'if Apple doesn't want tsomeone to do X or Y, then one shouldn't need to do it." This smacks of Big Brother to me. And the argument that this is an industry standard or that it would cause undue support calls to Apple just doesn't old water. Apple has never followed industry standards, but rather works at setting them. And how hard is it to make a user understand and confirm that some action they take will have inrriversable consequences?

Come on Apple, give us the tools we need.

I have two ePub books, one downloaded from Project Gutenberg and one from another source, that I imported into iTunes then transferred to my iPad. Upon opening them, I discovered that they are usable because of errors in text and formatting. These two books were synced to iCloud and now cannot be deleted. They cannot be removed from Purchases, though they were never purchased from the iBooks Store.

Whether purchased from the iBook Store or downloaded from somewhere else, I should be able to completely remove an unwanted book from iCloud. It does not matter if it is unusable because of errors or simply unwanted. I do not want to remove iCloud from my device, because I want to read the rest of my library on my Mac, or my iPad, or my iPhone.

This, Gail, is a problem.

Not quite accurate...because I did this myself, which is why I did not offer "I'm not sure, but...", as I did in suggestion using iCloud.com. I was able to delete over 100 apps (not native apps) that I purchased and found I never used or didn't like. This earlier this year...April 2016, I believe. And upon selecting an app, right-clicking, and choosing "Delete"...the options were (not verbatim, but close):

1. Do you want to remove this item from your library?
2. Do you want to delete item from your library? (sending it back to the cloud...)
3. Do you want to delete item and send it to the recycle bin?

I selected #3 and received a pop-up warning, "Are you sure you wish to permanently delete this item?" I clicked yes, and the item was no longer in my iTunes library, not even with a cloud symbol.The rest of your comments are valid; the items I "permanently deleted" from

my iTunes library were all apps. To this day, they are not found

anywhere in my account purchase history.

Again, the action that you took removed it from your iTunes Library, but not from your purchases. Go to iTunes Store, click on Account then View My Account, then scroll to Hidden Purchases and click on Manage, you should see it there. That is the point of hiding the media. It doesn't show in your purchased list or your library - it is hidden.

Once again, media that you purchase from iTunes or from the Mac App Store do not take up your iCloud space. They are housed in what is called iTunes in the Cloud. You don't pay for this - and actually, the media itself is not stored anywhere - just the purchase history so that if you want to redownload it, the system can find the media in iTunes and redownload it for you. So, hiding does what it is intended to do. It removes all visible trace of your purchase.

Content that you've downloaded from iTunes doesn't use any of your iCloud allowance, your free 5 gig or any additional storage that you've bought doesn't include it. You can't permanently delete any items from your purchase history, all you can do is hide items so that they don't show in the Purchased tabs for re-downloading : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4919 (if your device is on iOS 7 then you may need to log out and back into your account on it after hiding items on your computer's iTunes for them to be hidden from the Purchased tabs on it)

You can delete them from the device and hide them so that they don't show in the Purchased tab in the app for redownloading, you can't permanently delete any purchase. If you want to leave feedback to Apple about it use feedback link already posted

In my Purchased Books collection, I select the books, tap delete and they are still there. If I touch one, it downloads from the cloud, but not the iCloud, and goes into the Books collection. Then I Edit, Delete From All Devices, and it is still in the Purchased Books collection.

I have no books on my device, but many old ones on the cloud. Audible says I can't download a book to my device because I don't have enough storage space. They MUST be talking about iCloud. All books on device were deleted

"They" aren't talking about iCloud. If Audible says you cannot download a book to your device it is because there is not enough room on your device for your book. Audible doesn't give a hoot about iCloud.

Have you looked at the Storage on your device to see how much you have available: Settings>General>iPhone Storage:

1. Look at the graphic at the top to see where your memory is being used

2. Take a look at the Recommendations to see if any of them apply to you or if you would like to use any of them

3. Scroll down and see what apps are taking up the most room, and determine if you can reduce those

Delete Messages and Mail that contain large attachments, photos, or videos - those take up a lot of room

Delete any Apps you are not currently using

None of the book applications out there work that way - not Amazon/Kindle, not Banrnes & Nobel Nook, none of them. They keep you ENTIRE purchsased library in the Cloud, so you have access (when connected to Wifi) to your many, many books that you have lined up to read over the next sevaral years.

You then selelct the ones you want to have on your devide right now, and you download those only. Then, you just don't even have to click on teh "Cloud" option if you just can't stand to be overwhelmed by such a vast array of potential reading material.

What, exactly, is the problem?

And oh, by the way, you can delete a device from iCloud at any time by deleting the iCloud account off of the device....how hard is that?

You can't actually delete them.. but you can hide them from all devices including your iBooks on Mac.. How to do this is go to the store and purchases (I'm walking you through on the mac) then you go to the book that you are wanting to delete (hide) and in the top left corner will be an "X".. clicking this will prompt a message box asking if you want to hide this purchase.. Select Hide or Yes (can't really remember which it says) then when you go back to your iBook library the book will be gone on all devices.. hope this helps!

Also, you can click on the icon "Sort By" then change it to "Sort Manually'

As soon as you've done that, click again on "Sort By" and choose the option "Hide iCloud Books"

Then select the book you want to delete and press command-delete. And the book won't show up again in your library.

You can't currently permanently delete any items from your purchase history, all you can do is hide them so that they are less visible : hiding and unhiding. If you are on iOS 6 on your device then you will need to do it via your computer's iTunes, hiding isn't currently possible directly on iOS 6 devices. As that only hides them from the Purchased tab in the ibookstore in the iBooks app, you may also need to set Settings > iBooks > Show All Purchases 'off' on your device so that they don't show on the bookshelf with the cloud symbol

Books do not use your personal iCloud space, just like Shared Photo Streams do not use your personal iCloud space, or any other purchased media for that matter. iCloud space is used for backups, messages, notes, contacts, calendars, and anything else you have checked under Settings>iCloud. Apple Music is stored in the iCloud Music Library, and if you are using iCloud for Photos, those are stored in the iCloud Photos library. They all are

Hiding books has been detailed multiple times throughout this thread.

What you are referring to as "permanently delete" is not deleting, it is hiding. The purchase will not be visible, but you still own it and it is still on your purchase history. The only point at which it would be completely deleted is if it is not in your physical library and Apple removes it from the iTunes/iBooks or Mac App Store. This has also been stated several times.

If you want Apple to make a change to allow you to permanently delete purchased Media, then you should send your feedback to Apple: Apple - Feedback

From what I have read there are many ios users, myself included, who are appalled by Apple's lack of attention and concern as is relates to what should be a simple software update.
