iPod/iPhone/iPad is not a storage device, and the transferring music is one-way, from computer/iTunes to device. But if the music is purchased from iTunes store, you can transfer music from iPhone to iTunes by following these steps:

  • Before you transfer your purchases, make sure that your computer is authorized with the same Apple ID account you used to make the purchases.
  • Connect your iPod to the computer. Wait for its icon to appear in iTunes.
  • Go to File > Devices.
  • Choose Transfer Purchases from [device name].

I am having the same issue.... I use to like apple products but they are making things difficult. I tried contacting apple chat support and I had to enter in a serial number for my iMac. Well it said that it is "out of warranty" and I would have to pay 29.99 for an incident report... WTH... When it is time for a new computer I am definitely switching back to PC

You saved the day!! I accidentally hosed my itunes when trying to sync a new ipad. I lost.....EVERYTHING (almost 2000 songs and 25 playlists.) There was no itunes backup. My computer backup didn't capture music files. It was a series of ridiculous error which left me with an ipod that could not be synced without losing everything on it. I read your post, researched sharepod and ended up downloading it. KA-CHING!!! It is comically easy to use, and I now have a fully stocked itunes again. THANK YOU!!!

If the songs were bought from iTunes, you just need to transfer purchases: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201267

And if the music are imported to your iPod from other sources, you are able to transfer muisc from iPod to iTunes through iPhone assistant, just google it.

That would only work for iTunes-purchased music. For non-Tunes purchased music you need a third-party app.
