There is no Internet Exploder for Mountain Lion. You either need to run Windows virtually (e.g., with Bootcamp), or you need to get a PC (Windows 8 - lots of pretty tiles! Break Dancing!).

You might try different browsers (e.g., Firefox) to see if they work on the websites in question. You can also turn on the Develop menu in Safari (Safari Preferences, Advanced) and from there change the User Agent to Internet Exploder. Occasionally that is enough to get these bizarre websites to allow you to view them.

Are you sure that the site only works with internet explorer. Firefox and Chrome work with all sites I've ever seen. Also with safari, if you turn on develop in the setting page, it will say develop in the menu bar. If you click that then hit user agent you can open the page how other browsers (like internet explorer) see it.

Sites designed to work with IE only won't work with Firefox or Chrome.

Just throwing my $0.02 as a web designer in here....

The days of "using browser detection" to limit access to websites came and went LONG AGO.

Some folks "just didn't get the memo".

Plain and simple, if you're visiting a site that won't allow other browsers (when MSIE only comprises about 14% [at best] of worldwide browser use anymore), that's a good sign that most everything at the site hasn't been updated in ages, or if it has, it was done by someone who hasn't used any new software since about 2003. These people are ingoring more than half the people who could visit their site, with iPhones, Firefox (#2), Chrome (#1), Opera (#3) and Safari (#4), not to mention Linux users who nearly ALL use Firefox and are now moving to Chrome too.

Frankly, anyone who "slams the door" on that large a percentage of their potential audience or business.... won't get my time for anything.

I think what Arthur meant is that you are far more likely to get infected using Windows as opposed to OS. Its got nothing to do with the quantities of either OS in use or the way people use them, its how the OS works. Windows is inheritly less secure than OS purely because of how it works, Windows is wide open compared with Mac. But you're right in the fact that user use has a lot to do with it.

I am from both camps, used and still work with Windows, in fact run my own IT management company, so deal with Windows in all flavours every day, but in the office we are entirely OS, no exception and have been for about 3 years now and would never go back.

Horses for courses, but Windows is not as secure as OS, end.

Okay, somehow I'm replying to myself. I don't know how this happened, but this is more a question I'm putting out there to the community:

Reading these posts about incompatible browsers, I've learned a lot. I've been puzzled because I recently paid to have my book cover displayed on a website promoting Christmas theme books. But every time they sent me a link to my page and I click on it, my computer crashed. Safari quits on me. Then I tried visiting the book promoter's website directly and the same thing happened. They claim it's because their site is so popular, they've had over 8,000 daily responses. I was sort of made to feel responsible for the crashes. But after reading your posts, it sounds as if they haven't made accommodations for all browsers, mine being Safari. Can anyone comment on this? Visiting that site is more or less the only time Safari has crashed. Many thanks!
