MacBook Pro won't load the login page of Wifi Hotspots... Any idea why it is so? :)

Hello!

I recently bought a Mac for my studies, and I'm already starting to regret it! I have to deal with a huge problem : I can't connect to any of the 3 Wifi Hotspots at College :

When I try to connect, the computer will detect the network, seems to connect to it but always fails to reach the login page of the Hotspot. (When I open chrome or Safari, There's a message telling me that I'll be redirected to the authentification page but it always ends with a "connection timed out" message.) Therefore, no acces to Internet.

This problem must come from my Mac. Every other device (including my IPhone) will successfully reach the Internet! I tried to change DNS addresses, didn't work either. I tried to reach the login page directly entering the IP address of the routeur, found in the Network Preferences... Failed again!

One last thing : even if it isn't perfectly stable, I can connect at home to my Box.

Any ideas? Thanks for your help!

Simple stuff forget all the other fixes,

Here's what you do

once connected to the wifi and have the wifi icon next to signal, open safari, and type http://192.168.1.1,

Press Go/ search

this is the default address to communicate to router, then you will be redirected to login page

Problem solved!!!!!

Hi
I've had this problem for a while trying to connect to my PROXIMUS_FON hotspot in Belgium. And my internet provider (Proximus) didn't seem to have a fix for it.

For anyone having issue with awsomeo1 ip adresse solution like me here is the link i found after scratching my head for months: http://www.wegotserved.com/2011/10/18/tip-failing-connect-wifi-hotspot-macbook-d evice/

Basically all you have to do is Open Network Preferences… Click Advanced, then click the DNS
Then remove the either of the two entries 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4 (i only had the former). Save then reload the hotspot page and voila.

Worked like a charm for me.

Good Luck!

This is known apple problem, especially for older computers (pre-2013). There's one work around: simply trying to connect to the router's IP address: 192.168.1.1. However, that doesn't always work as the router could have a different default address. Here's another work around: You may have success removing your wifi interface and reading it (takes 5 seconds). Here's how:

1. click your wifi icon and go into your network preferences.

2. select WIFI on the left bar (should be blue), then press the "minus" button below. It will remove the WIFI.

3. press the plus button, select wifi as your interface, call it Wi-Fi or whatever you want and add it again.

4. Reconnect to the wifi and you should hit the login screen!

Please comment or up vote if you have success! Hope this helps!
