New to Apple Support Communities:There is an empty file in my trash at startup called MerpAD Office365. To my knowledge, I do not use Office 365. What is it, where can I find it, and can I trash it? I have had numerous problems with Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 and do not want anything more of this product than I absolutely need on my computer.

All versions of Office on the Mac have been notorious for not cleaning up their temporary files when the application is quit. I have temp files from Office 2011 in my trash almost every morning. There's nothing any of us can do to fix it, but it's harmless, just annoying.

I started this Discussion, but I have since uninstalled Microsoft Office (for other reasons). For now, I am using Pages and Numbers from the Apple Store.
However, what you have suggested makes sense from what I was trying-- in frustration. I may switch back to Microsoft at some point and, if I do, I will try your suggestion.
Misery loves company and I seem to have a lot of company with this challenging annoyance.
Thank you for this info; I'm going to try it. I have a new Mac that had a corruption in a Calendar file that I fixed with Support yesterday. Afterwards I deleted several files from Downloads and then emptied my Trash; this morning I had the MerpaD O365 in my Trash as a Recovered File. I do have Office:mac 2011 on my Mac.
Just loaded the new Office 2011 update 14.3.4 and the MerpAD Office365 document is still in the trash after each startup...oh well, so much for Microsoft support.
There are 13 "recovered files" folders in my trash, all with "merpad office 365", the most recent dated July 17, 2013. I have Office for Mac 20122 with update 14.3.5

Just installed Office for Mac 2011 14.3.6 Update and MerpAD Office365 is still showing up in the trash.

No. I do not have a 365 account, but I still get that file showing up if any of the Office programs had been open prior to shutting down and then restarting.
Well that suggests that having an account is not causing it.I have the same version of Office as you, no MerPad files ever.
I've never used the Office365 service.
I should have added that I knew Office365Service was running because I saw it in the Activity Monitor. Besides that, there is no other indication that it is open.
It is giving me an error message when I shut down without closing the applications first.
I need to know what is giving you an error message and the exact error message please.
t doesn't seem to do it every time. When it does, it says:
Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to close.
Test for a while, Office has plenty of errors with or without the 365 service.
