Contacts App Crashes Every Day

I have the latest build of OS X running on MacBook Air.

Starting about 2 weeks ago, Contacts crashes every morning. By crash, I mean that it hangs, won't respond.

I leave my Mac on at the end of the day. I close the top so it goes into sleep mode.

When I open the Mac the following morning, Contacts is always in hang mode.

When I go to Misson Control, I see the app. When I click on it, I get the pinwheel.

The app always requires a Force Quit. I get the option to Report the problem which I do.

I have turned the machine off and back on. The same problem occurs the following morning.

Safari is always open as is Mail, Reminders, Messages and Calendar. None of those OS X based apps seem to crash/hang.

I also generally have Skype, Evernote and DropCopy open all the time as well.

I've had this "setup" of app usage for about a year and the problem with Contacts only started about 2 weeks or so ago as noted above.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there, I have the same problem with my contacts as well. I am using MBP Retina with OS X Yosemite. If the contacts check box on iCloud Settings is NOT CHECKED; Contacts App works fine, but if the box is CHECKED then the app crashes as soon as it opens. Do you have any idea. Thank you in advance. PS: I have an another MBP Retina running the same OS X actually both computers installed from the same external drive that works like a charm but with this one I don't know what is causing the problem.

Hello. I read your thread this morning. I am wondering if you think I would be successful in solving my Contact App problems. Mine also crashes (pinwheel and I have to force quit). I've contacted Apple Care twice about the issue. Initially I was instructed to reinstall OXs X using this method: Reinstall from OS X Recovery. I did the reinstall and it had no impact whatsoever on my problem. The second call resulted in using Time Machine to get the Contacts back from two weeks prior. The Contacts App opened but again crashed when using it. I have my Contacts backed up in iCloud. I'm fairly new to the Apple world and could sure use some help. Thank you!

I have a MacBook Pro (Retina Display), 13-inch, Mid 2014 with El Capitan 10.11.1, 2.8 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3.

If you have the Rainbow Flag contact on your device, get rid of it. This can solve the problem on how Contacts App isn't working for me. Now it's working fine.
