I believe I may have stumbled onto the cause of the issue. At least after doing what the following author mentioned, I now have a Kindle icon on the "Open in" dialog and can load mobi files from Dropbox to the Kindle app.

What I did was to start deleting any apps that were appearing as icons in the "Open in" dialog, that I didn't actually need. After deleting several apps the Kindle icon reappeared on the dialog.

Of course, your results may differ...

I am pleased that this solved your problem.

In my case that was already tried.

The kindle app can in fac be accessed on my ipad as an option for "open with".

The problem is that that option is only present for PDF files, not for what once were mobi files.

Glad it worked for you.

Sure wonder why only some people have this problem. Unlikely to get Apple or Dropbox to care. I really do not think its a Kindle app problem, given the mobi to rar file corruption that has been observed. I would not expect Kindle to open up rar files.

I am also running into this issue with my New iPad mini. My iPad3 i can open my mobi files stored in skydrive into my Kindle app but i can not do this with my iPad Mini. Both my iPad Mini and IPad3 are running IOS 6.1.3.

Today I erased my iPad Mini and only installed the Kindle app and Skydrive app and it still will not work. I installed a file manager app and my iPad Mini is indeed seeing mobi files as rar files.

I also verified that my iPad3 can still open the files so I know the mobi files I am trying to open are not corrupted.

Thank you Khuong, that was the problem!

After uninstalling SjkyDrive app, Dropbox and SugarSync apps now works perfectly fine with Kindle app.

Thank you, khuong, for your information. I had the same problem of Kindle not showing in Open In in both Dropbox and Box apps. I deleted SkyDrive, restarted IPad, then Kindle reappeared in the Open in for both apps.

Not sure whose fault is it, but deleting SkyDrive did solve the problem.

I am using iOS 6.1.3. All apps are up to date as today, June 23, 2013.
