How do I set the border preferences when formatting cells in Numbers? After I make my selections and close the drop down menu, nothing happens.

How do I set border preferences when formatting cells in Numbers? When I use the drop down menu under Inspector, and set the preferences I want, a blue line shows up in the appropriate cell or cells to which I want to apply a border. When I close the menu, the blue line goes away and there is no border.

Are you sure this is in ios numbers? When selecting the cells in ios version, then using the menu to select the style, it shows up without a hitch, so i cannot reproduce the issue. I don't see ios or any ios device in your profile, so I am wondering if this is for the desktop version.

I take that what you demonstarted was done one cell at a time, then. And yes, I was looking for simultaneous selection of the same edge for all selected non-contiguous cells. But, Numbers does have some functionality that I prefer over how the otehrs do it. For me, I use the program that lets me work how I like best most of the time (all programs will have at least something you don't like), and for those occasions were I need a different one to achieve a result, then I use that one. The good thing is, there is enough to choose from...most of the time.

Hi rawsaxy,

Jerry's shot of non-contiguous borders can be done using Menu > Table > Allow Border Selection.

Click once to select an entire vertical border:

Click again to select a single border on a single cell:

The hold down the command key to select non-contiguous borders:

Then set them **all at once** using Inspector > Graphic > Stroke > Line > Line Type, Colour, Weight

Ian,

I appreciate the instructions, and yes it does work that way. But once again, the purpose was to be able to just select the non-contiguous cells, and use the "cell borders" selection tool to avoid having to go cell by cell. Your description is useful if one wants to select different edges on each cell.

As Barry pointed out, though, it can make you have to start selecting cells all over if you click wrong. That is why I would have liked my approach to be possible, which in Numbers, it is not. Well, thanks again for all the input and insight. If any further comments want to be made, as Jerrold Green1 pointed out, it's better to start a new thread. If any of you wish to do so, that's fine. but, as seeing that my initial approach is not possible in Numbers, it's not necessary.
