C300 FW 1.8: Weirdness in FCPX 10.0.8

Shooting on C300 @ 50Mbps 1920x1080 on fw 1.8. Dumped card on hard drive, imported to FCPX 10.0.8. The image looks flickery and grainy. I then did a test with converting a clip via MPEG Streamclip to Prores and it looked fine in FCPX. When I imported to FCPX there was no option to transcode, only proxy media- unusual.

When I exported from FCPX to file- image looked fine. When I used Share to post to Vimeo it also looked fine. So the problem exists within FCPX and the way it is monitoring the XF codec. It's just extremely unnerving.

I did a screen capture (at a lesser frame rate) where you can see the graininess and flickery image.

What's odd is that you're not getting in camera import function, but the file import function. I guess this is because of whatever the XF Utility has done. The media should certainly play without problem from the Pegasus. Does it always flicker in the same place when you playback?

yes I still see the flickering/grainess when I export a short clip. I have noticed that it happens with clips shot in c-log

Well theoretically you've solved my issue, Tom- because if FCPX doesn't offer an optimize option for XF footage then that's all there is to it. Toggling the viewing prefs for playback seems to have solved my flickering though it shouldn't look that bad in Better Performance either- that part is odd.

I too shot in log mode, but I can't imagine that would affect FCPX...

I shot some footage in CP8 instead of c-log to compare and I don't see the flicker/grainess at all.

Well, I don't know. What's strange is that I can't find anyone complaining on the internet, makes me think I am doing something wrong but I don't know what.

I simply went to the viewer icon and changed the quality from "Better Performance" to "Better Quality". Grain and flickering was gone.
