epson printer software update 2.14 killed my printer

On Mac OS X 10.7.5 - after epson printer software update 2.14 my 9890 started printing images "smeared" out of register across the page.

Over an hour with Epson tech ended with trashing the /Library/Printers/EPSON folder and downgrading to the previous driver. This fixed the 9890 but left my R1900 disabled. R1900 software is no longer available as a stand-alone install - only through Sofware Update. But that will kill my 9890.

Epson tech said it's Apple's fault and they need to fix it.

Apple, where's the fix?

Epson Perfection 1670, OS 10.7.5 (Update Killed The Scanner)

Thanks to Joel Brunner!!!

Mac updated Epson drivers and the my Perfection 1670 stopped working!!! I spent hours trying to figure out what happened!!!

Follow Brunner's advice!!

1. Delete the new Epson Scanner.app (in Library/Image/Capture)

2. Follow Brunner's link to download the old Epson Scanner.app

3. Place the downloaded Epson Scanner.app file into your folder (you will need to authenticate)

4. Reboot!

BINGO!!! THANKS A MILL!!!

For what it's worth, I just tried the 2.15 update that Apple currently has, and it still doesn't work with my Perfection 1670.

I haven't tried the advice (given by anubisBrooklyn) at the link Joel Bruner1 provided - I found a copy of EPSON Scanner.app (5.4.8) in a Time Machne backup. It sounds like you have a usable copy on the iMac, if you have that kind of access to it.

Good luck

I tried the steps that imacmoomy gave:

1. Apple-->System preferences-->Print and Scan

2. Select your printer (mine is a 7890)

3. Click the Options and Supplies button

4. Click on the drivers tab

5. Change the "Process Job by Printer", from "on" to "off"

6. Restart your printing program and try to print

but, when I got to step 5, the only options available were "skip blank page" and "warning notifications"

I'm afraid I really don't, just some things to try. If you haven't already, try restarting the computer, power cycling the printer, etc., etc. (and please forgive me for even mentioning it).

If it prints but doesn't scan (apparently a common problem, looking around this discussion board) try replacing "EPSON Scanner.app" with an earlier, working, version as discussed above.

If it just won't work, try going to Epson's support site for your printer, http://preview.tinyurl.com/m82efxb . Tell Epson a little fib about your operatng system (use the dropdown to tell them it's 10.6.x), download the appropriate package, apply it and hope for the best. This would be what anubisBrooklyn said worked for a scanner. (What I just found is that if I switch back to 10.7 from 10.6, the site will offer downloads of both the printer driver and the scanner driver. Unfortunately, the scanner driver available, 5.5.0, doesn't work with my scanner, a Perfection 1670.)

Good luck

Hi gang,

So I updated to Mavericks 10.9, and accidentally updated my Epson driver, disabling my Epson Perfection 1250 scanner. D'oh!

Fortunately, I had kept the older version , and overwrote the new one, and now my scanner works again!

Follow Joel Brunner's advice!!

1. Delete the new Epson Scanner.app (in Library/Image/Capture)

2. Follow Brunner's link to download the old Epson Scanner.app

EPSONScanner5315.zip

3. Place the downloaded Epson Scanner.app file into your folder (you will need to authenticate)

4. Reboot!

What you'll need is the old Epson Scanner.app version 5.3.15

I have had the same problem with my Epson 1670 Photo scanner since the 2.15 update. DON'T UPDATE if you haven't already. Downloading the 10.6 driver from the Epson web site does not work either. The scanner will work but the resulting scans are jumbled.

Joel Brunner was absolutely correct. The 5.3.15 version of EPSON scanner works perfectly. Unfortunately his link no longer works. BUT you can get this verison of the driver if you still have the Install Mountain Lion app on your hard drive. I used Pacifit to extract it and I put it in /Library/Image Capture/Devices (deleting the old one fiorst of course) and it works like a charm!
