Iphone 5 charger keeps on breaking.

Over the past five months, I have purchased over five different charger cables for my iphone 5 which i bought new in December. For some reason, after months, weeks or even days, he latest charger stops working. Sometimes the phone is plugged in and it doesn't respond at all to the cable, other times, the cable only functions when in a certain position. I am so angry at this as I'm spending and will continue to spend a lot of money to charge my phone. Am I doing something wrong? (This was never an issue with my iphone 3 and the cable even worked when the connector head seemed half broken off). What should I do? And also, is anyone else having this issue, because if not, then it must be an issue with my actual phone, no?

Thanks

iPhone 5

I have this issue too :(

I've had my phone since April and my second cord is about to stuff out.

I took it back to the place I purchased my phone and I was told the wires inside the cord have come loose from being pulled out of the phone by the cord. I had To purchase another cord so I've been careful with this next one keeping he away from my children. And this cord has lasted less than the original one!

The store won't replace it, I have to purchase another one. Not happy :(

I went to the Apple Store in Birmingham UK and a member of staff told me the issue was entirely my fault, I was using it incorrectly! This is plainly wrong, not to say insulting, I have not been yanking the cable out as was suggested.

You only have to look at the proliferation of 1 star reviews in the UK store to see just how disapointed and disgusted most people are with the poor quality of this item. The iPhone 5 may well be the best qulaity product Apple have every built but the cable most certainly is the very worst quality product I have every purchased from Apple, appalling!

I would also add that I have numerious examples of the previous generation 30 pin cables (collected over the years with various devices), all of which are still in perfectly servicable condition. Yet the 3 lightning cables (all Apple original) I have for my iPhone 5 are all showing crumpling and fraying.

To add insult to injury the Genius then had the audacity to advise me not to use the frayed cable as it 'could be dangerous' and suggested I purchase a new one.

I read elsewhere on here of people getting replacements for frayed or damaged lightning cables but this was certainly not the case on my visit

The issue is that the new Lightning sync cable that comes with the iPhone 5 is very brittle. I have returned my original cable after it started working within 1 week of purchase to Best Buy where I purchased my iPhone 5. The new cable that I received again stopped working. The first cable sheathing had a cut in it. The second cable came loose at the adapter. Both cables stay in the same place at all times and is never exposed to anything that would cause these issues.

In my honest opinion the new Apple lightning adapters are Lemons and Apple should pony up and replace all of the bad adapters with a new revision of cables. I am not sure how this got through QA, but I would imagine it has something to do with where these products are being mass produced.

I purchased a new adapter from Brookstone that has a much more sturdy sync cable and power adapter. This new charger has been working like a charm, and in fact is much quicker to charge my phone.

Alan Simpson, I understand the concept of "why buy a new cable if yours is under warranty", but the problem is this. Why keep making trips to the Apple Store to get a new cable when in fact the new cable is just as bad as the cable you have. Who has the time to keep going back to replace cables.. This reminds me of the exploding batteries that Dell had some time ago (much different outcome, but same QA type of issue), and Dell actually had a plan to resolve the issue. It doesn't seem that Apple has any such plan to date, and have caused a lot of people issues with the new phones. Don't get me wrong, I love Apple products (I have 2 Macbook Pro's, 2 iphone 4S, 2 Ipads, Apple TV, and 2 iphone 5's) but this is something that needs to be brought to Apples attention.

I am even contemplating reaching out to the Attorney General's office in my state and making a formal complaint. I would advise others who have gone through multiple Apple branded lightning sync cables and charging adaptors.

I have been having the same problem with my charger (bought 2 so far). I never had a problem with my iphone 4 charger and I don't believe I am doing anything different with my charger than I did before. After reading the post I am getting the feeling this is a manufacturing problem more than a consumer use problem. Apple needs to take serious concern with this. I called my local apple store and was told I need to make an appointment to bring in my phone and my warranty information. Of course no appointment is available now when my phone is dying and and need a cord.Which will cause me to spend more money on apple products.Part of the reason I liked the iphones was it was so reliable. If apple will now be making inferior products I will be taking my business elsewhere.

The charger/power adaptor, or the cable? These are two different and separate items.

You do not need to bring in your warranty information, which would be what?

Your warranty info is available at an Apple Store or when calling AppleCare by providing your cell phone number.

I purchased 2 iPhones in September 2012, which came with 2 charging cables. In December I purchased 2 more cables from Verizon for my wife and I for Christmas. Then we got an iPad Mini in February 2013. So, in total I have 5 charging cables.

Fast forward to August 2013; now 1 of them has connection issues that is driving us crazy, 2 of them have the wires showing, one of them is lost, and we now are left with 1 perfectly working cable.

I use these cables at work, in the car, at home. I don't know how each got damaged but I find it peculiar that they seem to be breaking in the same 2 places across the forum. It is no doubt that these charging cables were not built to last but it is great to know they are under warranty! These are our first iPhones so I'm happy with the warranty. That doesn't mean that I am satisfied with the cable because it takes me time to go to the store, wait in line, and try to tell them it was not my fault that these wore out so quickly. I have never had to replace a charging cable before (besides the cheapies I have gotten from an auto parts store).

If I could rate the charging cable as a product I would give it 2 stars (it lasted almost a year so it gets only a little credit)

I was having a similar problem with my phone - the charger would be plugged in, but no charge was going to the phone. I tried many other chargers, only to conclude that the issue was my phone. What it turned out to be was a bunch of pocket lint that slowly became stuffed in to the phone's charge port over the course of months. I used a paper clip to remove all the packed lint from the charge port and now my phone connects to the charger (and actually chargers!) like it did when it was brand new.

I think it's an issue with the cable. It was probably intentionally constructed like that just so that we'd keep spending money on chargers. Yes, there is a 1 year warranty, but having to wait 5-7 days for a new charger to come in the mail doesn't help. Also, what are we to do after that warranty expires? Continue to purchase chargers? I've gone through 4 chargers and just ordered another through warranty. This is clearly a RECALL issue for apple and they should rectify it by providing new chargers for the life of the phone OR developing a charger that actually works. This is highly inconvinient.

Iphone 5 charger keeps on breaking.
