Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
my ipad has a black screen. i tried rebooting it, connecting it to itunes with computer, nothing works, the screen is still black. i can hear it connect when i plug it in tomcharge or when i connect it to computer and it shows up in itunes but the screen stays black on ipad and i cannot access anything. what can i do. what does this mean?

Thank you very much for this answer. I work at a very large electronic retail store and I have a customer who was desperate to fix her beloved iPad that her grand daughter had dropped. The iPad screen wouldn't turn back on. I worked on it for a few min before feeling the death stare from management to stop helping her and either sell her something or send her on her way. So I told her to let me take it home and we exchanged numbers so I could call her later to let her know if I could fix it. She was very thankful seeing as there was a lot of very important pictures and other data on the iPad she wanted to keep. Also she didn't exactly have the extra $$$ for another iPad laying around anywhere. I tried everything from restoring in iTunes to installing software to force update the operating system. Luckily the software was only free until you actually wanted to use it so I changed routes very quickly. (where I work doesn't pay me to have $80 for software I will use only once) I became desperate as I very badly wanted to help this poor lady and found this article. SPANK THE IPAD...REALLY? I laughed so hard about it and was so angry at this iPad for not working I did it....and it worked!! 😐 I couldn't believe it. So thank you very much because now it is up and running and Ill be able to help her get all her stuff protected and she won't be stressed out. You helped a nice woman who didn't have the means for something brand new and really made a difference in her life. She will be very thankful.
OMG! After trying to get my iPad to turn on for 2 days now, I just "spanked" it and it came on!! Unreal. Thank you!

I've been working in IT for 15 years. I can't believe this worked. Couple of firm open-palmed smacks and my ipad2 is back. My BS-o-meter was pegged, can't believe it.
Same. I tried the 2key restart, and that didn't work. It wasn't till I accidentally dropped it that it came back on, and I noticed that a rap on the back of the device brings the screen back to life.
It worked I have cried all night long I can't live without my iPad I thought that I was going to have to put out a lot of money thank u
